Limited Edition Color - Hot August Night
In most areas of the United States August is the hottest month of the year, so knit your Hot August Nights away in four, yes FOUR Lorna's Laces yarns: Shepherd Worsted, Shepherd Sock, Lion and Lamb, and now Shepherd Sport! Remember--once we sell out, we're out!
The nice thing about living in a desert region is that usually, there's a break in the heat at night. Not so in the month of August! As beautiful as Nevada sunsets are, the moment they fade into night I 'm ready to duck into the air conditioned house and knit the night away. One glimpse at this color is like watching the summer sun slip behind the Sierra Nevada mountains, without the heat! (Editor's note: the previous statement was written by Ashley, who apparently is lucky enough to have air conditioning... we have a ceiling fan at home, but can rarely use it because Wiley thinks it's some sort of flying saucer that can be barked back to outer space.)
Anyway, this month's Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color was named after the smoky night skies here in the sierras... With all of the smoke this year, the skies have turned intense shades of red, orange, purple, and brown - and we've tried to recreate the colors to the best of our abilities.
We hope the projects below inspire you to knit your Hot August Nights into something you'll enjoy well into the cold-weather months!
Can't remember what the previous colors looked like? No fear!! We've put together a Lorna's Laces Exclusive Limited Edition page that lists all of the previous colors - it's perfect for reminiscing :)

My feet have been begging for some cushy sportweight socks, so I think a pair of these will be on my needles soon! If youre feet are begging too, you'll need three hanks of Shepherd Sport for these, two in your main color (Hot August Nights!) and one in a contrasting color (I'm going with Cranberry!). |

We must be joking, right?!! No. We're dead serious.

![]() Herringbone Shawl |
Jeanne designed and knit this pattern after picking up 4 hanks of May's Limited Edition Lion and Lamb in Becca's Last Day. Though that color sold out in May, the shawl would be equally gorgeous in the Hot August Night color... Looks like you could also do a smaller, scarf version using 2 hanks... and just look how adorable Jeanne's daughter looks... like mother, like daugher, right?!! |
![]() Lightweight Jacket |
Looking for project ideas for Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport? This lightweight jacket by Dovetail Designs will be perfect for the fall. It's worked in one piece with shoulder seams and requires between 4 and 7 hanks of Shepherd Sport in Hot August Nights! |
![]() Earflap Hat One |
I know, we don't want to think about it either, but it's back to school season already. There's just something about an earflap hat that says 'comfort', so send your student back to campus with this must-have accessory. After all, it may be warm now, but it'll be chilly before we know it! Plus, hats are a great quick-knit and most, like this one, use only one hank of Shepherd Worsted in Hot August Nights. |
![]() Pink Lady |
What can I say? I love Ilga Leja's patterns for their beauty, and their innovative use of fingering weight yarns! You'll need two hanks of Shepherd Sock in Hot August Nights and two hanks in a solid cooridinating color (like Brick!) for this stunning project. |
![]() Pretty Cheep Project Bags |
If you're like me you've got at least a few projects on the needles at any given time, and I know I like to switch what I'm working on often so I don't get bored (and take at least one with me just about everywhere!). Enter: the Pretty Cheep Project Bags from Blue Sky Alpacas. Available in three colors (each color is a different bird print!) on 100% cotton muslin and just $6.50 a piece. Pick up one of each color and keep all (ahem...at least some!) of your projects packed and ready to go! |
