Shepherd Sock Shepherd Worsted Shepherd Sport
Lion and Lamb Swirl DK Swirl Chunky

Trick or Treat - October's Limited Edition Color

(available in Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, Shepherd Worsted, Helen's Lace, Lion and Lamb, Swirl DK, and Swirl Chunky.)

Ah, Halloween. It brings back memories. Back when i was a kid in Raleigh, my best friend Allison and I used to run wild, especially on Halloween and Easter. Given the fact that there was an Kerr Drug in walking distance from our house, Allison and I used to count down the days until the day AFTER those famous holidays. Why, you ask? Because that's when all of the CANDY WENT ON SALE!!! The first day after Halloween would yield prices at 25% off, 2-3 days later the prices would drop 50%, and eventually every piece of candy could be had for pennies. We would go crazy. We saved up our kool-aid stand money (that's another story...) all summer for these super candy sales (yes, we had limited parental supervision those days and consequently bought as much sugary candy as we could afford). Anyway, I'll never forget those days... and the sheer happiness of knowing that we could get a bag of candy corn - or a peanut butter egg - for a nickel. (Of course, to date myself, the McDonalds down the street sold ice cream cones for $.26: a quarter plus 1 penny tax.) So, in honor of my memories of Raleigh - and in celebration of Huck's 1st Halloween season, we've come up with a color that reminds us of the colors we saw while walking up and down the sale-candy aisles. We hope that these colors remind you of your own youth. Trick or Treat!

P.S. Don't forget that the Swirl DK and Swirl Chunky are both 50% Off.

Now that you're geared up on all kinds of great new sock, sport, and worsted weight yarn, you're going to need some ideas for knitting with it! Below are a few new things that have hit the shelves - and that we think you might enjoy. :)

Cat's New Book
New Cat Bordhi Book
$26.95

Um, this book looks great (and i love the idea that you don't have to perform arithmetic), but i have absolutely no idea what the word Insouciant means... not to mention whether or not that's the kind of sock knitter I am. If it means "she who loves to knit socks but can't mentally manage anything more complicated than stockinette stitch - and rarely finishes 2 matching socks in less than a year", then i guess that does describe me! No matter what the definition, Cat's new book Personal Footprints for Insouciant Sock Knitters is a winner and has lots of creative ideas for knitting up your Trick or Treat Shepherd Sock and Shepherd Sport.

Hat and Neckwarmer
Oat Couture Hat and Neckwarmer Pattern
$4.50

This classic ensemble reminds me of the Mary Tyler Moore days (or maybe "That Girl" w/ Marlo Thomas?). In my mind, there is no other way to describe this hat other than "Smart." It's just smart - and a bit sophisticated too. 1 hank of the Trick or Treat Shepherd Worsted will get you the smallest sized hat and neckwarmer, while 2 hanks of the Worsted or the Lion and Lamb will give you enough yarn to knit all of the other sizes.

Double Rolled Beanie
2 Knit Wits Double Rolled Beanie Pattern

1 hank of the Shepherd Worsted in Trick or Treat is plenty for this FUN head-hugging hat from 2 Knit Wits. It that gives the illusion of being layered, but is really knit in just 1 piece.

Two Ways Turban
2 Knit Wits Two Ways Turban Pattern

Speaking of illusions, this Turban is a unique way to keep warm in style! Adorned with a button at the gathering of wide ribs, this hat is knit on size 8 needles and uses the equivalent of 1 hank of Shepherd Worsted or 1 hank of Lion and Lamb.

Bulky Asymmetric Cardigan
Knitting Pure and Simple Bulky Asymmetric Cardigan

Chic three-button cardigan with offset closure and seed stitch details. The sleeves are knit a bit long, then rolled up for a more structured look. Use 8-16 hanks (sizes 36"-56") of the Swirl Chunky...

Bulky Asymmetric Cardigan
Amigurumi Knits
$19.99

Ok, well... i had no idea what 'insouciant' meant, but at least i did know how to pronounce it. The title of this book has me absolutely tongue tied! No worries... the beauty of this book is that i can use all of my leftover Trick or Treat and knit all of these little creatures to my heart's content... and still never have to know how to pronounce the title. It's a win-win! Love the idea of knitting all of these little toys, but terrified of the skill level required? Never fear, my dear! Step by step photography teaches all the techniques you'll need to make these little guys, even if you've never ventured beyond a scarf before.

Cookie's Deep Dark Secret

Cookie's Secret
New Lorna's Laces Color
Cookie's Deep Dark Secret

I know, I know. It kinda looks like Navy. But it's not. I promise. It's deeper, darker, and well... more secretive (ha!). Seriously, Cookie's Deep Dark Secret is a bit more variegated than the Navy - and is definitely a much richer shade of blue. So blue, it's almost black in spots. You can really see how it knits up in this photo of Cookie A's finished Clandestine socks (the pattern is free on knitty.com and you'll need 2 hanks of the Shepherd Sock). We also have it available in the standard lineup of yarns: Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, Shepherd Worsted, Helen's Lace, and Lion and Lamb. Personally, i think this color is going to go perfectly with Huck's fair skin and bright blue eyes, so i'm going to grab a hank of the Shepherd Sport and knit up a quick winter hat for him (i'll use this ann norling pattern, but will just knit it all in one color - although it would be cute with denim as a contrasting color). Or maybe i'll get a hank of the Shepherd Worsted and knit up this Earflap Hat from Knitting Pure and Simple.... so many choices!

Here's a quick glimpse at a few new ways to carry around Trick or Treats for knitters... The Eden Cotton Pouch is a beautiful small bag for toting around mitts or socks in progress - and this season's colors are some of my favorite ("butterfly art" is the one I want!)... Need to travel for a few days and want to carry more than just 1 set of needles? I'd recommend adding one of the new Que needle organizers to your wish list. The new solid color line is called Theo and comes with a choice of numbered or blank tabs. Personally, i favor the blank tabs - i do most of my knitting on US 8 or 9 needles and almost no knitting with US 3s and 4s, so i like to be able to customize the tabs to whatever size works for me. (In all honesty, i have 3 Ques: 1 for sock/dk weight needles, 1 for worsted weight needles, and 1 for my bulky weight needles.) Oh Yeah! I can't forget to tell you about how brilliant the Buddy Case below is... it comes in 8 different colors and has hidden magnetized interior walls to keep your metal items in place and a removable interior divider. I LOVE IT!

Save $10.45 on Hand Maiden Sea Silk Yarn

SeaSilk
Save $10.45 Per 150g Hank
Hand Maiden Sea Silk Yarn (150g)

Normally $59.95, we've got the mega-hanks (150g/660yds) on sale for just $49.50 per hank. Honestly, this is one of those yarns that i wished i had ordered years ago. Back in august, we received our first shipment - and promptly sold out of almost every single color.... so when the girls at Handmaiden offered us some larger hanks (because sometimes 100g is too little, but 200g is too much!), we just had to jump at the chance. As you might expect, my favorite color is the Bronze, but Jeanne and Sandy are drooling over (but not "on" - lol) the Morgana. There are so many gorgeous colors, any of them are bound to make you smile.

Save 25% on 1st Quality Grayson E Leather

Well that was quick! As you might have noticed, we're almost out of the 2nd quality Grayson E Handles that we received a few weeks ago. The good news is that we just received a small shipment of 1st quality handles that we are able to discount... We've got plain narrow handles as well as narrow and wide stamped handles, all in perfect condition and ready for your purse.
