Amber, our illustrious Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Color celebrity (she has previously been intimately involved in the naming of two other colors), is responsible for this month's spectacular color: Amber's First Kitchen! When Amber went to visit Lorna's Laces in Chicago last November, she was given an opportunity to create her own color and dye it right there at the shop!
An unusual, yet complimentary combination of perky pink, vivacious green and earthy brown, Amber used her colorful kitchen as the inspiration for her masterpiece. Apparently the original revelation for this stylish color scheme was taken from a "Blueprint Magazine" cover that had a mauve wall, spring green frames and a brown chair. In her own words: "I thought it was the most amazing thing ever! And BAM, inspiration, paint, thrift store frames, AWESOMENESS". Awesomeness indeed! But does it do justice to her fabulous cooking space? When I asked, her she told me "it came out exactly like my kitchen. When I got home, I walked around comparing, and yes, we nailed it!"
As it turns out, dying yarn is a tricky business; Amber admitted that it took five different greens before her and the Lorna's yarn-dying specialists were able to find the exact shade. Not one to take all the credit for such a groovy hue, Amber praised the Lorna's crew as "magical people who know exactly how to lay it out and make it work. They may be part unicorn". Judging by the wondrousness of Amber's First Kitchen, I'd say that's about right :).
This color is perfect for any project requiring bright and distinctive variations in color, especially with summer just around the corner! Amber plans on crocheting a scarf for her "scarves to throws" project, though she is having trouble picking the perfect stitch. It is an important decision and not one she takes lightly! Though she will neither confirm nor deny it, there is also a rumor that Amber's First Kitchen may have absorbed some of Lorna's unicorn magic!

Now that you've fallen in love with one of our favorite colors (of all time!), you're going to need
some ideas for using it! Below are a few new things that have hit the shelves - and that we think you might enjoy. :)
Dolce Patterns - Matchgirl Gloves $5.50
|
2 hanks of the Shepherd Sport in AFK are all that you need for a set of these gloves... or get 3 hanks and make 2 sets: one for yourself and one to give away.
After all, it's never too early to start thinking about the next gift-giving holiday, is it?!
|
Girls Cap Sleeve Cardi Vest $4.80
|
This adorable top is one of our best selling patterns this month! It uses a heavy worsted or bulky weight yarn - and only about 250-350 yards -
and is written to fit girls from 18 months to 8 years old. Love the AFK, but not sure how to get the gauge? Try double stranding the Shepherd Worsted with the Shepherd Sport.
you'll need about 2 hanks of each. (Or, you could always use 2-3 hanks of the
Cascade 128 Superwash... that only ends up being $25-35 per sweater!)
|
 Lana Grossa Filati - Issue 39 $12.00

We love Lana Grossa magazines for a number of reasons: 1. the designs are classic, beautiful, and super wearable for everyday people like me;
2. the designs use Lana Grossa yarns!; and 3. there are TONS of patterns in each issue, so you always feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Cascade Ultra Pima: A silky soft cotton yarn and in true Cascade style, it comes in a beautiful range of colors and has that great yardage that we love! You can machine wash it in warm water and tumble it dry cool!
And did we mention that it was only $9.50 for a generous 220 yards? Considering that this cotton looks and feels like silk, I'd say that's a bargain!
We've got over 50 colors - and should have all of them photographed very soon... (thanks in advance for your never ending patience).

Rowan Silk Wool DK Was $9.95 Now $4.97 (50% off!)
|
Our Best Selling Yarn of the Month!
Rowan Silk Wool DK yarn is 50 silk/50 wool and is lusciously soft and shiny.
The wonderful drape is accompanied by the strength of wool and the softness of silk. A Rowan staple for years, it has been discontinued and our remaining stock is 50 percent off.
We have 6 colors left, but it's selling fast (probably because it's only $4.97 per ball and it has 109 yards... and the colors are beautifully neutral)!
|
Debbie Bliss Pure Cotton Was $6.50 Now $4.55 (30% off!)
|
A super soft, durable, 100 percent Cotton perfect for all your spring and summer knits and kids items.
We've got 8 classic shades on sale, ranging from baby pink to minty green to a mature grey... I can honestly say that there's something for everyone!
What will I be doing with this yarn? I think I'll pick up 1 ball each of the Berry, Mint, Spruce, and Grey - and will knit up
matching summer beanies for Doug and Huck... i'll make the stripes slightly different, but the colors will make it obvious that the beanies (and boys) were meant to go together!
|
Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed Chunky Was $15.00 Now $9.00 (40% off!)
|
100 percent Donegal Tweed Wool in a chunky weight. Knits up quickly, but is not too bulky and each hank has 111 yards (so is perfect for a hat or quick scarf)!
We've got 5 colors to choose from, so start working on your Fall wardrobe today... (how about this Dolce Handknits cardigan? You'd only need 3-5 hanks).
|
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK Was $9.00 Now $6.30 (30% off!)
|
In 6 overstocked colors, the Cashmerino DK is a Merino, Cashmere, and Microfibre blend that is ridiculously soft and machine washable yet reasonably priced (especially at 30% off)!
The PERFECT yarn for Knitting Pure and Simple Patterns, as well as lots of Debbie Bliss creations...and has 125 yards per ball!
Personally, I'd love to see a patchwork blanket done with ALL 6 colors.
Maybe something like this one... or
this crocheted one?
