| Organic Market Bag Pattern Provided for the 2007 Emmy's Award Show |
This pattern has been provided as part of a gift pack for celebrities attending the Madison & Mulholland Emmy's award show SwagSuite. The full kit to make the organic Market Bags was provided to attending celebrities.
We used a 100% naturally dyed wool to create this felted last-minute market bag. When heading over to a friend's for dinner, grab this reusable bag instead of disposable plastic bags to scoop up a few last minute items. It is perfectly sized for a magazine, a bottle of wine, some cheese, crackers and a baguette. Plus, your friends will be impressed by your ecological awareness!! |

Directions
Body
- Knit the Body of the Bag.
- Cast on 60 stitches.
- Starting with the yellow & following the stripe pattern above, knit in stockinette stitch for 50".
- Bind off.
- Sew the Bind-Off Edge to the Cast-On Edge, creating a tube.
- Sew the bottom edge shut using an invisible stitch (page 99 in the Vogue Ultimate Knitting Book).
- Your bag now looks like a pocket!
Create the Top Edging
- Using the green, cast on 7 stitches.
- Knit in st st for 50".
- Bind off.
- Attach the edging to the top of the bag - fold the green you just knit over the edge of the bag, so that 1/2 of the green is visible from the outside and 1/2 is visible from the inside. Using leftover green yarn, sew into place.
Create the Straps (make 2)
- Cast on 60 stitches with the green yarn doubled. (To create more substantial straps, we knit with 2 strands of the green held together.)
- Knit for 6 rows.
- Bind off loosely.

Finishing
- Felt your bag and straps - I placed mine in our top-loading washing machine on the hot/heavy duty cycle (with some tennis shoes and jeans). This yarn felts very quickly, so you'll want to check it every 3-5 minutes. You might find that the straps felt quicker at a different rate than the bag, so don't be afraid to pull them out separately.
- Once the bag and straps have been felted and dried, sew the straps invisibly into place using a sharp darning needle and dental floss!
- Enjoy!
