Scarves to Throws - Month 2 - Free Knitting Pattern
Scarves to Throws - Month 2 - Free Knitting Pattern   Scarves to Throws - Month 2 - Free Knitting Pattern
Our knitting guru Allie helped me put together this pattern. Using 1 hank of Shepherd Worsted Motherlode and smaller needles (US 8 is small for me!), we were able to create a scarf that's nearly as long as the first Month's... In fact, when i block it enough, i can get it to be exactly the same length... the throw is already starting to take shape!! If you've never worked on an Entrelac project before, browse our earlier article, 'Working through the Entrelec Shawl' for tips. Also, I found that knitting backwards was a useful skill to have when knitting this scarf. You can find help on our Knitting Backwards article.
Finished Measurements: 5 x 65 inches (after some serious blocking and stretching!)
Materials
Gauge
  • In pattern stitch, 18 stitches = 5"
Abbreviations
  • CO: cast on
  • R/S: Right Side
  • W/S: Wrong Side
  • Turn: flip the work - e.g., if you were working on the right side row, flip the work so you are now working on the wrong side.
  • K: knit
  • Kf&b: increase 1 stitch by knitting into the front and back of the stitch.
  • Inc: increase 1 stitch invisibly (using the left needle, pick up the ladder stitch and then knit into the back of that stitch with the right needle).
  • K2TOG: knit 2 stitches together, as if they were one.
  • SSK: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit. Slip the next stitch as if to purl. Return those 2 stitches to the left needle and then K2TOG into the back of those stitches. Insert the left needle into these 2 sts (from left to right). You can view photos of this technique on our Decreases article.
  • P: purl
  • P2TOG: purl 2 stitches together, as if they were one.
  • Sl1: slip 1 stitch. On RS rows, slip the stitch purlwise with the yarn in back. On WS rows, slip the stitch purlwise with the yarn in front.
