All of the new spring yarns are in from Berroco, giving you plenty of time to knit before warmer weather hits! (And who isn't ready for warmer weather right about now?!?!) First up, we have Modern Cotton, a blend of pima cotton and modal rayon for a perfectly soft, machine washable yarn. As you can imagine, Modern Cotton is ideal for baby and kids' garments like Squill, a cute little romper, or Bilberry, a charming little girl's dress. Modern Cotton is great for adult garments too, like the Hacek Tunic from Norah Gaughan Vol. 14!
Next up, there's Linus and Folio. Linus is a thin, tape-like yarn that is a blend of acrylic, linen, nylon, and rayon, which is wonderful for light and airy summer garments. Try it out on the Parrotfish shawl or the gorgeous top-down Careen pullover from Norah Gaughan Vol. 14. Folio is a super scrumptious blend of superfine alpaca and rayon that results in a soft and light yarn for spring and summer. We love the stunning Kurama cowl and the Sliver shawl. If garments are more your thing, check out the Nijo cropped pullover.
Also new this season are these fabulous pattern booklets from Berroco's design team! Polynesia features Captiva, Fuji, and Karma in some wonderful designs like the Papara poncho and the Napuka Skirt. Our favorites from Lake House includes Espowet, a cozy blanket, and the hippie-chic Gully pullover, both knit in Floret. Lastly is the ever-popular Norah Gaughan Vol. 14 collection with some of our favorites like the Divvy tunic knit in light and airy Cirrus. Berroco's spring lineup is as beautiful as it is functional, which is why we are sure you'll find some knitting inspiration in no time at all! |

The Europa Tweed is also a bulky weight yarn, but it's a single ply tweed in tonal colors that create a lot of texture! This yarn has tons of loft and comes in a variety of gorgeous colors. Tracie has sadly been discontinued, which means we are now able to offer it at a really great price! Check out one of our patterns using Tracie (and it's differently spun counterpart Tracie Too) for some easy gift ideas like the Rustic Shawl, Convertible Button Scarf, Rhombus Feather Shawl, or the Swing Cardigan!

Sara's Selkie Cape | Sara, one of our former employees, stopped by to say hello recently - and she was wearing this gorgeous FO! She bought the pattern, which is called Selkie, by Melissa Schaschwary, as a download on Ravelry. She used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky, which turned out to be the perfect yarn for this cozy project! She lengthened the body and sleeves a tiny bit to give it a longer fit, making it the ideal outer layer for winter! Thanks for sharing with us, Sara! |
Penne's Fuzzy Bear VestBethany wanted to make this adorable little vest out of the Erika Knight Fur Wool for her daughter Penne, but she didn't really have a pattern. So, in true Bethany style, she just made it up as she went. Basically, she cast on stitches until the bottom edge looked like it was going to fit and then knit in the round in stockinette stitch until the vest looked long enough. Then she divided for the armholes and just kind of winged the neckline. The result is super cute and Penne really likes wearing her bear vest. She is just starting to talk and when you ask her 'What does the bear say?' she makes a 'Rawwwrr!' sound. Really cute!
For a similarly styled vest, we really love the Pebble Vest, which is quite popular on Ravelry. |
Emily's Erika Knight Fur Wool Jacket | Emily saw this jacket made with Erika Knight Fur Wool and knew a) it would suit her unique sense of style perfectly and b) it would be super warm to wear this winter! She was right on both accounts, and we just LOVE the result! It was a super-fast knit as well on US size 17 needles, it only took a few days to make; the only tricky part was seaming up the garment, since the yarn is so furry. What a fun and cute jacket pattern to make with this unusual and beautiful yarn! |
Bethany's Top Down Sweater | Bethany started this sweater before she had her baby over two years ago and she just picked it back up, determined to wear it this winter. It was her first sweater project ever! This yarn (a discontinued worsted Lorna's Laces yarn) happens to be in her favorite Limited Edition color EVER - Caramel Pumpkin Latte. The pattern is Knitting Pure and Simple's #241 - Neck-Down V Neck Shaped Cardigan. She is so thrilled that she has it all ready to wear for her Thanksgiving trip! |
Kristen's Darling Baby Soakers | Kristen saw the pattern for these a while back and queued it up should she ever need to knit little baby things. Fast forward about a year and she is now expecting a little one who will definitely make good use out of these! The pattern is called 'Darling' and can be found in the Fibre Company Baby Collection. You can purchase the e-book from their website here: The Fibre Company Baby Collection. Since we do not carry the Fiber Co Organik yarn used for these soakers, Kristen selected Malabrigo Twist as a comparable substitute. What she loves about this yarn is how soft the merino fiber is, but also that it's a multiple ply, meaning it will pill less and stand up to multiple hand washings. |
Rachel's Gramps Cardigan | Rachel knit this cute cardigan for Heather's new baby. The pattern is called Gramps and it's by Tin Can Knit, whose patterns are available on Ravelry. The pattern can be purchased here: Gramps Cardigan. Rachel used Rowan Cashsoft DK which has now been discontinued, but says that Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino will work as well for a similar look. Keep in mind that with a DK, you'll need to play with the needle sizes a bit to get gauge since the yarn is slightly finer. The pattern actually calls for Madelintosh Vintage, so pretty much any worsted weight yarn would work as well. She also used the cutest little sheep buttons she found at Hancock Fabrics. This cute cardigan is going to look adorable on Heather's little boy! We can't wait to see photos! |

Leanne, our purchasing maven (yes, she gets to buy all the yarn... Best job ever!), wanted us to share some of her favorite new products from our trip to TNNA in early January! We have some awesome new stuff coming this spring, and here is a peek at some of it and what she had to say about it:
- Reywa Bloom: "I love Reywa Fibers in general. Embrace, their flagship 100% yak yarn, is scrumptious, and the second I saw Bloom, I knew we had to have it at the store. Some of the other gals at from the shop who attended TNNA saw Bloom for the first time and asked if we could carry it... haha! It's got to be a good sign if I'm not the only one who's fallen in love with a yarn!"
- Be Sweet Sonoma Shawl kit and Grace and Style Exclusive Color: "We had the fortune of running into Nadine, Be Sweet's founder, at the very beginning of the show, and managed to nail down the details of some ideas we'd been kicking around. We had the honor of rolling out the newest color of Grace and Style, Ruby, at the beginning of this month (exclusive to JBW for a limited time!), and on top of it came up with the perfect color combo for the ever-popular Sonoma Scarf - Ruby and Amethyst!"
- Masham: "It is always exciting to see new yarns from Lorna's, and this one definitely didn't disappoint!" Masham is a blend of British wool and Masham wool and it takes dye just beautifully! It's a particularly "wooly wool", for the traditionalists out there; and like last year's new addition, Haymarket, it's sure to be a big hit! We are hoping to start getting it dyed in our Lorna's Limited Edition Colors soon!
- Knitting Everyday Finery: "It was really fun to walk around the Unicorn Books booth (during the Stitch Mountain book signing) and get a refresher of all the creativity out there!" This book was requested by Kristen and she's already planning several projects out of it!
Also new around here are our Taxis, which are now roaming the streets of Reno and Sparks! We have 10 taxi cabs with advertisements for our shop on them around town. It's so neat to see them, and oh so tempting to chase them down to snag a photo! We feature some adorable pictures of Huck in his Ski Patrol Sweater (designed by Suzy Allen) from Stitch Mountain, and also some fantastic photos of Pro-Snowboarder Jayson Hale with his grandma, crocheting and knitting together. | |
We thought this would be such a fun way to get the word out in our area about the shop! Hope you like them, and if you are local, stop in and let us know you saw them! |
