We know that the latest season of Sherlock has already aired on PBS, but we couldn't help but pay tribute to one of our favorite detectives this month! Jenn and Laura are both HUGE Sherlock fans, so they collaborated to bring you not one, but two Limited Edition colors for April: Sherlock's Secret and Dr. Watson's Blues! Dr. Watson's Blues is available in most of the Lorna's bases as well as Bijou Basin Ranch's Bliss, and Sherlock's Secret is available in a selection of our bestsellers: Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, Shepherd Worsted, Lion and Lamb, and Masham Worsted. For those of you who follow the series, you know that Dr. Watson had a good reason to be blue at the end of Season 2 because of Sherlock's Secret. All is revealed in Season 3, but it was fun to have a little mystery in the meantime! | To go along with Dr. Watson's Blues and Sherlock's Secret, we asked our friend Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton to create a pattern using Lorna's Laces newest base, Masham Worsted! She's designed an awesome unisex scarf aptly named "Sherlock Scarf" that can be purchased directly from her website, Ravelry, or Patternfish to go along with the yarn. We also have some stunning Yarn Bouquets in both colorways as well as Sherlock-inspired Hand Made Project Bags. Don't forget the coordinating Fabric Bouquets as well for those of you who also sew! |
To top it all off, we've created a MURDER MYSTERY of our own. Here is how it will work:
The Crime: An innocent skein of yarn has been murdered at JBW! Gasp!
The Suspects: Zippy von Purlmeister, Scarlet Hamish, Heavy D, E.B., B Star, Gertrude Fizzlesnips, Frau Rumples, Guinevere Muircastle, Ophelia der Vander Snoot, and Pugsly Popper.
The Clues: Important info about the suspects can be found on our blog , and the clues will be released on our Facebook page each day from April 1st - April 7th. You must like our Facebook page to be eligible to win.
The Goal: Use your powers of deduction to figure out who the murderer is and bring the criminal to justice!
The Reward: Figure it out correctly and you will be entered to win one of two kits to knit Cornelia's Sherlock Scarf!
We hope you'll join us in solving the mystery! Oh yeah, and in case you were wondering, Sherlock's Secret and Dr. Watson's Blues are available in the following Lorna's Laces yarn bases, as well as a full bouquet:

We just received the new Tahki and Filatura di Crosa yarns for spring, and we are celebrating with a Spring Fling Extravaganza! Each day from April 8th-14th, we will be sending out a free mini-sample of a different Tahki or Filatura yarn in every single online-order. That way you can see for yourself just how awesome their yarns are! In addition to the samples, we'll be hosting a giveaway on our Facebook page for the first seven days of April for kits to make some beautiful Tahki projects! Be sure to "like" our Facebook page in order to be eligible to win one of these seven kits!
Here is what we'll be giving away (each day's yarn samples are what is used in the giveaway kit):
We should mention that we cooked up this idea when Laura and Kristen visited the Tahki warehouse in Queens, NY, when they were in town for VK Live this past January. There they met with Diane and Stacy, the owners of Tahki Stacy Charles, who are seriously some of the nicest people on the planet! (Not to mention that Diane knows the spot to get the best bagels we've ever tasted... Thanks Diane!) They were so excited for us to share their yarns with all of you that they are sponsoring these giveaways 100%! We have lots of fun plans in the works for collaborating with them more over the coming year, so stay tuned for that as well.

The new Spring yarns from Tahki and Filatura are some of the most exciting we've seen in a while! From the Tahki line, we have Mimosa and Tandem. Mimosa is a super-soft blend of cotton, silk, and cashmere that is great for summer tops and sweaters. Check out the Robin Cardigan and the Seedling Shell for some great Mimosa projects.
Tandem is a variegated textural yarn in cotton and viscose, also great for summer tops and accessories. One of our faves is the beautiful Willow Belted Cardigan. On the Filatura side of TSC, there is Tempo and Minitempo. Essentially the same yarn, but in worsted and sport weights, respectively, this yarn makes gorgeous Missoni-like self-striping garments. We've fallen in love with both the Fiorella Tunic and the Giulia Duster Vest. Each of these new yarns will be part of our big Tahki Spring Fling Extravaganza starting April 1st, so be sure to check them out!

| Just in time for spring, we have some new baskets and bouquets for you! Our Small Cascade Winter Basket was such a hit, we decided to create another one for spring, this time in a cotton yarn to make an adorable springtime vest! The Cascade Spring Gift Basket includes 4 skeins of Cascade Ultra Pima (available in several colorways) and the pattern for the Rose Trellis Lace Vest by Vera Sanon for Cascade yarns. One of our employees, Kaitlin, is currently knitting this vest, and it's just gorgeous... so much so that it inspired us to make these baskets! We think you'll love them, too. |
Also new this month is a gorgeous TSCArtyarns Bouquet of Empress and Bedazzle. Empress is a soft blend of silk and cotton, while the Bedazzle is a mix of merino wool, cashmere, and silk with sequins scattered throughout. One skein of each is arranged into a stunning bouquet with knitting needle stems in a glass vase, perfect for gift giving this spring for Easter, Mother's Day, a birthday, anniversary, or just because! The two skeins together make the beautiful John Snow Scarf designed by Iris Schreier of Artyarns, which is included in (and shown on the cover of) Tahki's latest Little Luxuries pattern e-book; a link to download this pattern is included with the purchase of each bouquet. |

Also, don't forget the lovely small or large Swans Island Birthstone Bouquets for April birthdays! Both of these beautiful new gift offerings are perfect for all of those upcoming spring holidays and events!

| We recently became acquainted with Diane from Alice's Embrace, an organization that is working with yarn shops across Northern California and Nevada to have hand knit or crocheted blankets made for Alzheimer's patients.
|
Diane told us the story of the blanket she made for her mom when she was suffering from the disease, and how the blanket went with her literally everywhere for comfort. Diane is hoping that knitters and crocheters all across Northern California (or even the country) will make and donate machine-washable lap blankets or prayer shawls to be distributed to Alzheimer's patients. Jimmy Beans has volunteered to be a collection point for these blankets and will make sure that they are passed along to Alice's Embrace. You can read more about Alice's Embrace on their website and also download some of their Free Blanket patterns to get you started!
Diane is hosting a shop contest between now and June 30th as well! The shop that collects the most blankets between now and then will get to hold a drawing for everyone who sent in blankets for a $50 gift certificate to that participating shop! Each blanket submitted gets you one entry into the drawing. We think this is such a great cause, and wish Alice's Embrace the very best in their endeavor! |
