Earlier this year, we asked you to vote for your favorite of two Tahoe-inspired exclusive colors in our Tailor-made Tosh series from Madelinetosh: Blue Jean Baby and Penny Loafers. While Blue Jean Baby, a mix of pale blues reminiscent of that favorite pair of worn-in jeans in all of our closets, was the clear winner, Penny Loafers still got almost 35% of the vote! | We took that to mean you liked it, so we've decided to release this rich blend of russet tones as our fifth installment in the Tailor-made Tosh series. After all, nothing conjures memories of back-to-school and Fall like a brand-new pair of loafers! You can enjoy memories of those favorite shoes as you work up your favorite weight of Madelinetosh yarn in this amazing, comforting color - it's available in all of the Tosh yarns we carry, but grab it quick before it's gone! In addition, Spark has created a beautiful set of custom stitch markers to coordinate with the gorgeous mix of mochas, ambers, and deep browns to bejewel your project as you knit along. |

We at Jimmy Beans Wool and the fantastic folks at Zealana (makers of scrumptiously soft possum yarn) have joined forces to bring you an entertaining and informative internet scavenger hunt... With prizes! Starting Wednesday, September 24th through Tuesday, September 30th we will be posting one Zealana- or possum-related question per day on our Facebook page. To enter yourself in a drawing to win enough exquisite Rimu DK in Powiwi Pink (or any other color of your choice) to make Kristen of ' Cloud Forest Cowl (expertly modeled above by Kristen's husband, Nick), just email the answer to the question to zealanapossum@JimmyBeansWool.com. Each answer counts as an entry to win, plus you get the PDF pattern for Kristen's gorgeous cowl just for submitting an answer! |

We've had such an overwhelmingly positive response to our yarn samples and samplers that we've decided to continue this fun tradition with one of our favorite worsted-weight yarns: Lorna's Shepherd Worsted! This soft, bloomy wool is one of our go-tos here at the shop for everything from baby clothes to hats and scarves. Not only is it soft and easy to work with, it is machine washable! Whether you're trying this yarn out for the first time, need a bit for swatching, or trying out different colorways, these samples come in super handy. Each Shepherd Worsted Sample
will be 15 yards of pure woolly goodness, wound up into an adorable yarn cake. We'll be posting the samples for sale just as soon as each color gets wound, so if you don't see the color you're looking for at first, be sure to keep checking back!
We've also started a new initiative to help you fall even deeper in love with Lorna's: color swatches! We're hard at work knitting up a swatch of each colorway to post on the website so you can see exactly how the colors play out in a project - the answer to your prayers, right? If you'd like to help us, and just happen to have a project or two knitted in a Lorna's Laces yarn, we'd love to use photos of your project (cropped to show a fabric swatch) as examples on the site! You can shoot those pictures over to support@JimmyBeansWool.com. |

Inspired by our newest shipment of marvelous Malabrigo, we checked in with designers Melissa Leapman (designer featured in Malabrigo Book 2, among many other things), Alex Tinsley ( Dull Roar designs), Andrea Rangel ( Andrea Rangel Knits), and Alexa Ludeman ( Tin Can Knits) to get their take on this classic yet innovative yarn. Check out their answers to our quirky questions below! JBW: If Malabrigo colors were Skittles flavors, which would be your favorite?
Melissa Leapman: Sour Green Apple ( Apple Green), of course! Who doesn't like to pucker up?
Andrea Rangel: I love orange...so I think I'd go with Rhodesian. It looks delicious.
JBW: If you could take your favorite Malabrigo yarn on a date, where would you go?
Alex Tinsley: Hmmm... Sledding followed by hot buttered beverages in front of the fire.
Alexa Ludeman: I would take Malabrigo Worsted out for a lovely evening. We would go roller skating (ironically) and then out for tacos. No reason, I'm just in the mood for tacos.
Melissa Leapman: A cruise to South America. I could knit up all the Malabrigo I bring with me onboard and then replenish my supply during a visit to the factory!
JBW: If you were stranded on a desert (or arctic!) island and could only take one Malabrigo base with you, which would it be?
Andrea Rangel: I'd have to take Malabrigo Sock along. It's soft, durable, comes in beautiful colors, and if I wanted something heavier than fingering weight, I could hold multiple strands together.
Melissa Leapman: Silky Merino. Great drape, great sheen, great all around!
Alexa Ludeman and Alex Tinsley: Worsted Merino!
JBW: What is your absolute favorite project to knit with Malabrigo, and why?
Melissa Leapman: Writing an entire book of patterns using their yarns! It would allow me the opportunity to play for hours and hours with tons of qualities and colors. Pure heaven!
Alex Tinsley: Hats of course :-)
Andrea Rangel: Making my Sentiment Shawl
with Rasta was really fun. It's so bright, quick, and luxurious. Plus, I love knitting lace!
Alexa Ludeman: Lace. I am currently obsessed with Emily's Gothic Lace scarf in Malabrigo Worsted, the lace looks great in a worsted weight!
We've been waiting with bated breath to see what you all would knit up for our September "Go Ahead, Make Something Malabrigo!" Knitalong on Ravelry, and you didn't make us wait long! Several of you have already whipped up some stunning projects in your favorite Malabrigo yarn, and we can't wait to see what the rest of you come up with. If you need some inspiration for a quick project to begin and finish by the end of September, why not try Tin Can Knits' Caramel Slouch (1 skein Worsted Merino) or the Chevzam! Cowl from Dull Roar (1 skein each of 4 colors of Worsted Merino)? Or, you can check out what other Ravelers have done in the FO thread - and be sure to tag your projects with the "goaheadmakemalabrigo" tag so we can all "ooh" and "ahh" together! |

If there's one Bean we couldn't do without, it's our Sandy. In fact, we have almost never done without her: with 8 years under her belt, she's been at Jimmy Beans longer than anyone else (well, except for Laura and Doug - ha!). Recently we learned that her endometrial cancer is back and she'll be doing chemo this time. In typical Sandy fashion, she encouraged us to keep spirits high, and we decided to help raise awareness of this type of cancer by putting on some peach! We've been wearing peach ribbons, knitting with peach yarn, and dyeing our hair peach. You heard right: the Beans got together for a peach dye party and while we all came out with varying shades of the color (and some of us with considerably less hair than we had to start), we're all wearing our new 'dos proudly in support of Sandy. We're in your corner, lady! (and we'll be donating 100% of the profits from Lorna's Go Sandy Go color to the SD Ireland Cancer Research Fund , as part of their impending "Cast off Chemo" project! |
