| Knitters Against Malaria and a New Calligraphy Set Featuring New Kits, New Yarn, and New Clubs for the New Year! | | |
We have to admit... We're total suckers for coming-of-age stories and could binge-watch (or read) them all day long if we could! It's really nice being able to escape our daily lives for a little bit while still being able to relate in some way.
Many of us have faced unfair hardships in our lives, but that never stopped us from being the best we can possibly be. The beauty of women shines through our passion, our strength, and our emotions - each and every woman is multi-faceted in our interests and personality, so it's impossible to put us in a box. This rebellious nature is reflected perfectly in the newest film rendition of our beloved classic novel.
To celebrate the strength of women and our uniqueness, we're introducing our newest knit cowl kit designed by Amy Gunderson: The Four Sisters Kit. This kit includes:
This cowl features four different lace patterns that represent each unique woman in this story! Utilizing a zig-zagging eyelet pattern to make cat ears, Beth makes herself known at the top of the cowl. The next section of lace is reminiscent of shelves full of novels, representing Jo. Once you get to the bottom of the cowl, the edging has a fun, creative flair to it, which mirrors Amy's artistic nature beautifully. But where's Meg, you may ask? Her warm, loving nature is shown through heart-shaped cables that bind the sisters (and the cowl) together!
You may have seen it teased on Instagram, but we just can't keep it a secret any longer! We've collaborated with Melanie Berg, who absolutely tickled us pink with her most recent patterns - Calligraphy Hat, Calligraphy Mitts, and Calligraphy Shawl.
You know those days where your outfit is on point? When you notice how well coordinated your look is or how your gloves match the shade on your hat perfectly (for some of us, it's as simple as our underwear matching - don't judge!)?
Melanie took this to the next level by designing an elegant set of matching mitts, a hat, and a shawl. Each piece features a delicate diamond motif that's easy to learn and relaxing to knit, finishing with an eye-catching, almost scale-like pattern.

A Sneak Peek for Pop-Ups!
There's something about the end of the year that makes us just a little bit antsy. It feels like there's still so much left to do before the year is over, and yet, there's no time to actually do it! It's just so hard when the future holds some special surprises for us!
We're gonna keep this on the down-low, but we have a super special pop-up arriving in January 2020 (which is hard to believe how close that ACTUALLY is). Starting then, every month we will be highlighting a different dyer or company to celebrate their individuality through their knack for color, yarn construction and fiber blends! While we can't spill the beans, we can definitely give you a taste of what's to come!

An Island Stay-Cation!
Here in Nevada, the weather has been... Dreary, to say the least. It's been surprisingly windy in between bouts of cold, drizzling rain and frigid sleet! That's it, nature, we've had enough of this!
...Okay, we admit winter DOES have its charm, but sometimes it's hard to be happy and jolly when your ears are growing numb from the cold!
To combat this, we've been taking a bit of an extended vacation for our needles, which is the purl-fect way to end the year! We're talkin' the whole nine yards (or in this case, 137 yards?)!
Like a refreshing (and much needed) island paradise in the middle of winter, Rowan Island Blend is the ideal winter-weather yarn!
Each skein is as soft and airy as you would expect it to be with a lush name like Island Blend! Made out of 70% wool, 15% alpaca, and 15% silk, we almost want to grab a few skeins just to squish! Each hank is a 2-ply DK-weight yarn that has a slight halo, making your projects LOOK as soft as they feel! Available in a pleasant palette of neutrals with a few brighter hues, this yarn is perfect for Fair Isle and intarsia projects! Two skeins can make you a hat while one skein can make a pair of mitts!

2020 Hedgehog Fibres Shawl Club!
It's crazy to think that next year is just under a week away! Have you guys set your New Year's resolutions, yet?! One of our goals for the new year was to bring Shawl Club to everyone by having it be not only beautiful but accessible for people who knit AND crochet! The new Jimmy's Shawl Club will be offering a knit pattern by Ambah O'Brien and a crochet version by Salena Baca - both patterns are included in each shipment to make checkout a breeze! Each month will supply you with an 80-yard ball of Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles yarn in a scrumptious shade to feast your needles and hooks on, available in two colorways: In the Jimmy Beans Wool 2020 Hedgehog Fibres Shawl Club, you will also receive an exclusive enamel stitch marker per month, along with 1 tin per month! In the first month of the subscription, you will get a ring to keep all of your pattern cards together, while at the end of the year, you'll be sent a metal board where you can organize all of your monthly tins and reuse them for another project (or as a neat notions hanger)! 2019 was a year of eye-opening experiences and growth. Though Giving Tuesday has come and gone, that doesn't mean that the efforts of giving back to the community stop there.
This year, we're joining forces with Knitters Against Malaria - an organization of over 40 designers, yarn companies, publishers, and other members of the knitting community in an effort to raise money and boost the quality of life for people in need. With every dollar donated, we take another step closer to providing a life-saving mosquito net to people in high-risk areas, significantly lowering the chance of an individual contracting malaria.
Each net costs about $2.00-$3.00, meaning every donation makes an impact on the lives of those affected! For the majority of us, we have the luxury of calling mosquitoes a nuisance and a common pest in the summertime, but for others - particularly those we're helping in Africa - don't get that same privilege. Just last year, ~270,000 children under the age of 5 fell victim to the deadly bite of malaria-transmitting mosquitoes.
In an effort to collect donations for the cause, we're collaborating with the team at Madelinetosh for a unique, limited-edition colorway, Knitters Against Malaria, available in Pashmina. The color is a neutral cream base with flecks of blue and pink peppering the yarn. No pattern is included with purchase, as this color is a universal shade that can be used for anything (Melanie Berg's Calligraphy Hat, anyone!?)! Jimmy Beans and Madelinetosh will each be donating 10% from each skein sold to the cause.
Since 2000, the number of malaria deaths has been halved, and together, we can take the steps needed to continue on this path to lower the risk of malaria even more!!
