| New Shibui, An MKAL, & Our Biggest Little Getaway! Your Weekly Dose of Fiber! | | |
You know what we've been missing for a while now? A good mystery - something we can really sink our teeth, er, needles into. Well, we've finally picked up something that may finally sate that hunger! Our favorite time-traveling duo is back again along with our favorite superfan and designer extraordinaire - Rachel Roden of Unraveled Designs in tow!!
|
|
The Fraser's Ridge MKAL is our newest mystery knit-along, including the following: - 1 skein of Honeygirl Farms Honey Fingering in Scottish Sunset - a 100% superwash merino yarn with 490 yards of squishy strings
- 2 balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze in the shade 664 Steel
- 1 pattern download code off of Rachel's Ravelry page
- 1 packet of Soak for when you start blocking
- 1 pair of mini scissors to keep in your project bag
- 1 darning needle!
|
Our first hint is that this project uses the yarn held double and we're super excited to dig into those fuzzy fibers!! That being said, we know that not everyone wants to keep it a mystery, but don't worry, we won't judge - some of us are currently on the hunt for some season 5 spoilers (we're bad, we know, but it's sooo tempting)! Okay, seriously now, we have spoilers in the following link. You. Have. Been. Warned! Though, we should also warn you that checking out the spoiler page may just fill you with the urge to knit this project up immediately!!
We're casting on February 16th. Will you be joining in!?
Please note: To complete this project, you will need a US size 7 needle with at least a 32" cord which is not included in the kit.

Can we get a SHI-BOOYAH up in here?! Starting out the new year with a bang, Shibui has released The Julie Hoover Collection - an array of modern, minimalistic, and absolutely MARVELOUS colors! These three new shades are available in five of our favorite bases: Nest, Pebble, Silk Cloud, Tweed Silk Cloud, and Twig! Shibui has always had an elevated and sophisticated color palette, but we have to admit, we're drooling over this collection. Each color tells a story behind their spark of inspiration:
|
Black Plum is a deep burgundy colorway based on the peak ripeness of the fruit (and fits PERFECTLY for winter). Reminiscent of when you take that first bite and are whisked away by how deliciously sweet it really is, this color brings a strangely nostalgic flair to it!
|
Glacier was inspired by the reflection of the sky and water on a cold, clear day. Mirroring the still, wintry air and chilly breeze that creeps across a snowy landscape, this shade is a light and icy, cool gray with the slightest tint of blue to it.
|
Like fleeting kisses taken from the pages of classic novels, Vintage Rose found its name from Julie Hoover's favorite matte lipstick. Understated with a little personal touch, this color can easily find its way into everyone's stash!
|
Each shade in this collection is incredibly versatile, pairing well with the core Shibui shade collection. It's encouraged to pair one weight with another to create a fabric that's truly unique to you and your project! Create a sweater with a delicate halo of fuzz or a soft and tweedy cowl to bundle up in when the windchill picks up!

Eiffel In Love With La Bien Aimee
Ah, Paris. The city of romantic lights, cobbled streets, longing vows of love, and... YARN!? If you haven't heard the word already, we launched our Pop-Up shops this year, so we can truly showcase a variety of gorgeous projects and yarns from independent dyers and companies.
We started the year out with a bang, showing our absolute faves from La Bien Aimee! The sweater pattern shown is the Stonecrop pullover by Andrea Mowry.
|
|
We interviewed Aimee, the mastermind behind the artful fibers, on our blog! There, you can read about how she came up with the brilliant names of her favorite shades (like San Tokki) and how she began her journey as a knitter! Each skein is hand-dyed with love and soaked in all things Paris, making it basically the most romantic thing you could use for your next project. Seriously, imagine telling whoever you're giving that next scarf to that it was dyed in Paris - SWOON!
La Bien Aimee Merino DK is a versatile 100% superwash yarn that easily fits into any stash! Use it to make a dreamy shawl or a charming pullover and let the yarn speak for itself! Squishy, soft, and well-rounded, Aimee's eye for color truly shines in her palette of pastels and neons!

Winter Wools And Spring-time Shades
We're positively loon-y about these new Blue Sky Fibers colors in Woolstok, and you probably will be too! Blue Sky Fibers came out with not one, not two, but SIX new colors. Just in time too, because the forecast today in Reno is cold, gray, and rainy! So this may or may not be the perfect excuse to sit at home and start a new project to keep us nice and toasty!
This new color palette is perfect no matter the season, with Loon Lake, Northern Lights, and Morning Frost reminding us of the frigid January days with cooler tones. Meanwhile, Ember Glow, Lilac Bloom, and Mossy Green are reminiscent of the warmer spring days to come and heat up our projects!
Each skein is a soft and bouncy yarn made of 100% Fine Highland Wool and perfect for squishin'! Available as a worsted weight, this yarn can be used to make up a plethora of projects from cardigans to wraps to hats, keeping you feeling warm and cozy on those chilly nights.

Blanket Club Has WHAT!?
The first installment of the Jimmy Beans Wool 2020 Hedgehog Fibres Blanket Club OFFICIALLY kicks off this month! Over the past few weeks, we've heard you voice your opinions and want you to know that we've been listening! If making a progressive blanket each month just ain't your flavor, know that now you will also have the option to use your blanket subscription yarn for an included hat pattern each month, which we fondly call "Beanies by Beans"!
|
|
Your monthly subscription will arrive as normal, but now includes an additional card with instructions to make a hat each month (because, seriously, we could ALWAYS use more hats). And the best part? Each pattern was lovingly created by one of our Beans using the same yarn you receive in your package for the blanket - it's a win-win!
We won't spoil the pattern completely, but be prepared - we're starting the year out with this month's knit beanie designed by Amy and crochet beanie designed by Adrienne!!
|
As of right now, the only way to participate in Beanies by Beans is by subscribing to the Jimmy Beans Wool 2020 Hedgehog Fibres Blanket Club. Then, all you gotta do is wait for your monthly club yarn to arrive and use the hat pattern instead - we like to think of it like a choose your own adventure in crafting. This addition also serves as a clever way to get your holiday knitting out of the way without getting overwhelmed - seriously, it feels so good to be done early!
