| Madelinetosh Squirrel, Kidsilk Lace, and RED Kits Squirrels, Hedgehogs, and Dogs, Oh My! | | |
We've been hearing murmurings over at Madelinetosh HQ over the past few weeks. Something about circles? Turtles? No! Squirrels! It was definitely squirrels! Well, we can finally spill the beans and officially talk about the (k)nitty-gritty of why squirrels have been on the brain recently!
So, as you all know, makers, much like squirrels, are attracted to the real-life shinies that catch our attention (whether that be new yarn, new accessories, or a new pattern). We... squirrel away those little treasures in our stash to admire and fawn over until a rainy day arrives and we finally get a chance to use them! And oh, what a glorious day that always is!
Which is the inspiration of the new Madelinetosh Squirrel Series! A small collection of colors inspired by an array of things - from the world of pop culture to any other crazy, spur-of-the-moment ideas from the creative team!
Madelinetosh finally unveiled the trio they've been teasing and, we're already nuts about them! The three vibrant shades they released are reminiscent of one of our recent favorite murder-mysteries, lovingly referred to as Sporks Out! Each shade is based on a character that won our hearts in the film, titled by their role: Inspector, Patriarch, and Caretaker.
Each shade is available in Farm Twist and Tosh Merino Light and can be used either individually for single-shade projects or together for a gorgeous fade in your next sweater or shawl (one of the beans paired this trio with Grasshopper for an eye-catching colorstory)!!
One of our favorite things about the soft and supple strings of Hedgehog Fibres is just how bright and vivid the entire shade range really is! From neon pink to bright blue, all the way to deep, tonal indigo, heck, even the more neutral colorways are incredibly rich and serve as an absolute delight on our needles!
We are also huge fans of wrapping ourselves up in something ultra-fluffy in the cooler months (even in the warm, summer months if we can get away with it!), which is why Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk Lace is the perfect blend of high color payoff and warm fuzzies!
Each skein of Kidsilk Lace is made out of 70% kid mohair and 30% silk, which gives these fibers a lovely sheen! The halo the mohair creates around the strand of silk is not only the perfect lace yarn in itself, but adds an interesting texture to your next project! Use it by itself for a light and airy shawl, or hold it with another yarn to take advantage of that gorgeous haze!

Sock It To 'Em!
Universal Yarns really popped off with these gorgeous new hues for Bamboo Pop Sock! This blend of cotton and bamboo is springy, bouncy, and absolutely perfect for jugglin'! Okay, not all of us were gifted the ability to juggle, but we were taught how to make some pretty incredible things with just some string and a needle or hook!
Each ball of Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop Socks yarn is 492 yards of fun, fingering-weight fibers! The blend of bamboo and cotton makes this yarn perfect for anyone with sensitive skin or an allergy to wool. The best part? It's self-striping! This makes your next project a breeze, elevating them with interesting color combos and easy patterning!
Ring in spring with these stunning shades and kits featuring free patterns!

Knitting For A Cause!
We think it's safe to say that most makers out there are huge animal people - whether it be an intense love for cats and dogs, a hobby around something a little creepy and crawly like spiders or snakes, or maybe something not owned as a pet, but appreciated and in need of help like polar bears and green turtles. We have a love for the creatures we share the planet with, and wish them only the best.
With our newest edition to our library, Cashmere Company's R:E:D: (standing for Rescue Endangered by Design) is a breathtaking book that highlights 17 different animals, all of which are endangered and the unique risks they face. Each of these incredible creatures is accompanied by exclusive patterns inspired by them, suitable for children and adults alike!
This book begins with a thoughtful foreword by Jane Goodall before launching into each endangered species by continent - each animal is accompanied by a description of how they act in the wild and what is the primary reason for their endangered status alongside stunning imagery and how, despite being endangered, there is still hope for them!
We're not joking around when we say that this is a HEFTY book, too! Clocking in at 320 pages, there are 7 designers that came together to make 33 (you read that right) hand-knitted sweaters with included patterns! Each purchase of this book makes a $10.00 donation for animal conservation via Oceana, WildAid, and the Jane Goodall Institute!

Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Colors!
We makers all have a pretty strong sense of wanderlust - yes, even the introverts! Can you imagine how great it would be to relax and knit by the sea!? For now, we've reached a happy medium of travel and knitting because Lorna's Laces is kicking the year off strong by taking us on a tour of the United States with two new shades! You could say these colorways win our... teal of approval, hehe!
One of the most intense human emotions is curiosity. What happens if I try a new cast-on method? What happens when you mix two colors for dyeing your yarn?
Lorna's Laces married this idea of curiosity with explosive color in their shade, Mammoth Cave. Highlighting the deep reds found underground to the pleasant blue of the sky on a white base for an eye-catching colorway, this shade is sure to sate whatever curiosity your needles have!
Inspired by the deepest lake in the United States, this colorway features a gorgeous, deep teal splattered between vibrant violet shades woven into a white base.
Crater Lake was formed after the collapse of a volcano after a major eruption and has resulted in multiple, interesting rock and island formations in the center (such as Wizard Island, which makes the royal purple in this skein feel that much more magical)! While we can't take a vacation there right now, this color will certainly be found in our project bags!
Like all limited edition shades, they will not be here forever, so once they're gone, they're gone!

Project on our Needles!
Amy's Le Pouf Pullover
Okay, as much as we love chunky, bulky knits, we're kind of over winter now and want to wear something a little lighter and breezier while still staying cozy. Using Hedgehog Fibres Sock yarn in a sunset of shades, Amy fell in love and needed to make those balloon sleeves (seriously, they're SO cute!). The effortless fades Hedgehog yarn is capable of made this project a piece of cake to figure out for her and now is a wardrobe staple!
This project is available as a kit on our website using Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles yarn!
