Okay, we know that we go on and on about stripes around here, but we just can't help it - they never go out of style! And who are we to argue with the world of fashion? Especially when knitting stripes can be so meditative and still stay interesting. Nothing beats the eye candy that comes out of adding a new color in seamlessly!
Trendsetter Yarns (AKA the masters of the self-striping game) is putting some pep in our step with these springtime staples! These projects include the V Swing Pullover, Arrow Rainbow Pullover, and Zig-Zag Wrap, rounding out our wardrobe and project bags for the warming weather! Each of these breezy patterns features a different take on stripes to keep it unique and fun, such as simple stripes, chevrons, and scallops!
Using Trendsetter Yarns Merengue yarn, a DK weight, self-striping cake, watch the shades melt into each other right before your eyes - no changing colors required! Every cake is made from a blend of bio cotton and soy and holds 310 yards of smooth strings! Each kit is available for a limited time, so be sure to grab them before they're gone!

Knitting and crocheting are a lot like cooking. We have to find that one recipe that will be the perfect blend of fun with a little bit of a challenge and, of course, a whole lotta yum factor! The best thing about both is that you don't have to follow the rules and can take your artistic liberties wherever! Don't have the yarn that is suggested? Swap it out! Want a different color choice? That area is yours to command!
But sometimes we get the urge to make something purely because we found an incredible ingredient we want to use - or in this case, in-gradient!
|
|
We've picked up the fabulous Whirl Fine Art Yarn - a new long gradient cake from the color crafters over at Scheepjes! This DK weight yarn is a delightful blend of superfine merino wool, acrylic, and microfiber, resulting in buttery-soft strings that are perfect for any level of crafter to get their fade on without worrying about color changes or swapping skeins!
With its silky appearance and an impressive 503 yards to play with, it makes a wonderful addition to any stash or project bag!

Interviewing the Beans around the warehouse, we asked them to squish one of the cakes and tell us what it feels like to them, "Like angels dancing in puppy fur!" Wendy happily exclaimed - we can't help but agree! We may just squirrel one away to use as a pillow for when we take a midday power-nap! Or... Maybe we'll just make a blanket to snuggle up with instead!

ATTN: Vintage ResTosh!
Picture this: The sun has set and your chores are finished - it's finally time to unwind and relax. You grab your project bag, pour yourself some wine before kicking your feet up and jumping right into your WIP! Your favorite vintage port with a simple, repetitive pattern. Oh yes, this night is shaping up to be a good one!
|
Like a fine wine, Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage has so many delicious notes that seasoned professionals can sniff out, hehe! This yarn's notes come in the form color payoff - sure you can find a purple, but what if you want a super-specific undertone?
Maybe you want something a little moody but with a bright pop of fun? Well, Wino Forever is your gal! Trying something new by indulging in a light, and gentle blend? If so, you may want to pour yourself a tall glass of Rose!

Our wool cellar has just been restocked with only the finest fibers, from the honeyed tones of Rye Bourbon to the light, airy notes of Matcha, which have been aged to perfection! While we can't hold a yarn tasting in person, here's our guide to finding that perfect shade for your next project!
1.) Look at the array of shades in front of you and pick one. Focus on it - does it speak to you? Is this an attractive color? Do you see yourself making something out of it? 2.) Hold it (or, if you're online, look up the fiber contents). Is this scratchy? Soft? Does it feel pleasant on your skin? Would this be comfortable to wear all day? Is this the weight you're missing for that project you have in mind? 3.) Test it out on your needles! Does it glide on your tools? Is it manageable and have just the right amount of fun and challenge to it? 4.) Commit! This is a match made in heaven and should be deemed so with that dreamy design you've had in mind!
We hope this short, fun guide comes in handy next time you have an itch to relax and spend the evening making! Cheers! Clink clink! (Er.. tink tink?!)

A Fine Day For Namaste!
As we toss another gorgeous skein into our stash for a future project, we can't help but stare in horror at the growing pile. "Hmm, I should probably organize this," we think. But... does this fabled organizing ever happen? We'd prefer not to let that secret out! *wink wink*
Okay, okay, we can't always dedicate the time to organize our yarn because it's fairly easy to see what we need when we need it, but our needles? That's just not as simple - it's like finding a needle in a haystack (er... yarnstack!)!
That's why with the Namaste Maker's Wallet, we can stay organized and have a single place for those bad boys! You know those organizers for your movies and music? Imagine that but for your needles! This snazzy wallet has 10 vinyl pages that can hold 10-20+ sets of circular needles as well as a pocket and slots to hold your interchangeable tips and cords. You could even hide away a pattern or two in there for on-the-go work!
As we find ourselves at home a lot more, we've been knitting in between bouts of cleaning, so marrying the two worlds just feels right! Goodbye to the days where we frantically lay out our tools to search for that ONE size 2 and hellooo to being able to start on your project faster!

It's Free Pattern Friday!
Okay, we can't hide it any longer... we've officially been bitten by the craft bug and it's pretty clear that a few of you have too! It can happen in the blink of an eye or in the middle of the night! Just picture it: you're relaxing, watching the newest episode of your favorite show, and then the thought hits you, "Hmm, I think I want to pick up knitting, maybe even crocheting!"
It's been so exciting seeing more and more people learn to pick up our hobbies for themselves. Watching our loved ones initially get interested and then fall for fun colors of yarn before shyly asking for help is just adorable! Though we understand that it's a little intimidating of a hobby to get into because seeing charted, lace weight shawls still makes some of us shiver in fear!

I Spy... A Sale Of Magpie!

Cast On Day is just around the corner (next Wednesday to be exact!) and we gotta ask - are your needles ready?! For a lot of us, this is one of our first sweaters (unless you're our Bean, Alex, who's seemingly been on a wool-path to knit every sweater ever), so we're excited to take that leap into larger projects! The first installment of the Madelinetosh Sweater Club shines a light on the Lounging Top pattern by Joji Locatelli - a simple knit top that will surely keep you cool this summer!
|
|
We can picture it now, lounging by an open window, the birds are chirping, and our sweater is drying from blocking it - we can hardly wait! Featuring three unique shades exclusive to this kit, Biggest Little Skyline, Crystal Bay, and Sierra Sunrise, our needles can feast upon the beauty of our home in the sierras!
While sign-ups for this KAL have passed, we encourage you to try this project out for yourself! It takes between 2-4 skeins of Tosh Merino Light, and a copy of the pattern.

Project On Our Needles!
Julee's Vellichor Pullover
They say there's beauty in simplicity, and we couldn't agree more! Falling in love with the textured, woven pattern of the Vellichor Sweater by Andrea Mowry, Julee quickly got to work to have this ready for Summer! The stitch pattern is engaging and easy to memorize, making for the perfect couchside project for any advanced knitter and beyond who wants to dip their feet in an interesting sleeveless tee! This project starts from the bottom-up and ends with the shoulders being bound off together, resulting in the iconic boat neckline we all know and love from Andrea Mowry's previous work!
The Vellichor Pullover pattern is available for purchase from the Jimmy Beans Wool site!
