| Qing Fibre, Berroco Kits, and All Kinds of Lace!
Today, we're celebrating our seventh Popup with a parade! As we march onward in learning about these shops, we add a new parade float to our lineup! We've been making our way around the wool-d of yarn by visiting places like San Diego with Vrinda Yarn and Baltimore with Neighborhood Fiber Co., and it's about time we hop over the pond to meet up with Qing Fibre (pronounced: ching) in England!
|
|
2020 marks Qing Fibre's 4th birthday! Master color-crafter Layla (Qing) Yang began her journey with a lust for eye-catching, variegated shades that transform your stitches right before your eyes!
Layla set out on a mission for vibrant, unique shades to interest everyone! Ethically sourced from Peru and England and hand-dyed in Layla's London-based studio, each skein is designed to make your project stand out no matter what kind of crafter you are!
|
There's no raining on our parade with the first float to come our way! In the shape of a big, fluffy cloud comes Qing Fibre's Melted Baby Suri - a sumptuous fingering weight yarn made of a gorgeous blend of alpaca, merino wool, and silk! Mesmerizing to squish in your hands, this yarn holds 190 yards per hank and is fantastic for adding texture and contrast to your next project!
Next up, a huge pillow is coming our way! Soft, comforting, and something we come back to time and time again! As the name would suggest, Supersoft DK is, well, super soft! Made with sensitive skin in mind, this DK weight yarn is perfect for all of your fibery needs from hats to scarves to cardigans! Made from superwash merino, cashmere, and a touch of nylon, this yarn is ideal for every kind of maker!
Our last parade float looks like a gold crown, signifying royalty and grandeur! Made from a luxurious blend of superwash merino wool, silk, and yak, Qing Fibre Yak Singles are basically yarn royalty! The natural gray of the yak fibers is elevated by the lustrous sheen of the silk, bringing a sense of balance to your needles as well as an addictive texture for your hands!
Our Beans Amy and Winni both fell in love with the scrumptious shades of Qing Fibre and felt so inspired that they decided to tag-team these designs! Inspired by the summery weather and lust for the warm ocean breeze come three projects that utilize the soft and lofty fibers to their fullest! You can find each design as a kit on our website, with the Hurricane Scarf also available as a free pattern!
Excited to learn more about Qing Fibre? We have an interview on our blog asking the tough, hard-hitting questions like what inspires Layla, the challenges she's faced on her journey, and what her own parade float would look like!

Ice cream is basically the perfect pairing for any summer afternoon. The sweltering heat is something only a certain sugary, cool treat can fix! Finally it's the season for stocking our freezers to the brim with an unprecedented amount of fruity sorbet and slow-churned ice cream!
Our project bags deserve to be cooled down with the same love. Working with heavy wool is totally doable in the summertime (and it always feels great to get a headstart on holiday gifts), but why break a sweat with a heavy bag when you could cool off with some sweet, silky boucle? From Hedgehog Fibres, we've picked up the airy, lightweight Alpaca Boucle yarn! These lightly textured strings will breathe new life into your crafts this season! With its dainty feel, this yarn is ideal for holding double with the main yarn in your project or alone in sections of delicate lacework to add dimension and interest!
We promise this is one yarn you can indulge in that'll make ya wanna come back for a double-scoop! This lofty lace-weight yarn holds a whopping 678 yards in each skein! And the best part? Due to the hand-dyed nature, each skein is unique, and has the added benefit of not being prone to shedding!

A Berroco Barbeque!
There's an artistic touch that goes into summer barbequing. Collecting the necessary tools, arranging the meat for everything to fit and get evenly cooked, and making sure the grill lines are just right! Don't even get us started on plating and condiments! We need to make sure our meals are always Instagram ready!
The same can be said for our projects! Now, we're no strangers to comparing our projects to food, but there's a reason for it (past us being big fans of each, of course), we promise! For a lot of people, preparing meals is a language of love, which is exactly how we feel about making! The process of choosing a yarn, pattern, and color combo is an important one because we pour so much love and thought into it - what's yummy for the eyes is yummy for the project bag, hehe!
|
This meal prep, er, project prep was especially fun for our Berroco Mantra Stonewash kits! Mantra Stonewash is a DK weight 100% silk yarn - yeah, you heard that right. All silk, all day!
A yarn that's breathable with the perfect amount of drape? We may be helping ourselves to more than our fair share this season! The stonewashed look of this yarn has a classic heathered effect, elevating whatever design it finds itself in!

A Prairie Potluck!
Do you smell that wafting through the air? The familiar scent of charred meat, sugar-crusted apple pie, and savory potato salad? Goodness, our mouths are watering just thinking about it! This year, Madelinetosh brings our daily dose of fiber with new shades of Prairie for our needles and crochet hooks to dig into! This smorgasbord of strings has never tasted so good!
|
|
Made out of 100% superwash merino wool, Prairie is the optimal choice for any summertime crafting, giving your projects a gentle drape and matte finish! It's basically like the heavyweight champ of our project bags when the temperatures start hitting triple-digits.
If you're lookin' to expand your warm-weather wear, Prairie is always a reliable choice - kinda like that one friend that always remembers to bring the essentials like plastic cups and cutlery (whomst we love and appreciate dearly)!
|
There's a little somethin' for everyone with Madelinetosh's delectable shade range, from vibrant red and green options to moody gray and blue hues - it's basically like being a kid in a candy shop! Each skein boasts a hefty 840 yards of smooth, lacey strings, making it perfect for just about any project you can imagine!

CooCoo For Cocoknits!
One of the most anticipated things in celebrating the 4th of July HAS to be the fireworks. Whether you usually go out and brave the crowds with a lawn chair underarm or stay home and watch the bright blooms of color from the comfort of your couch, there's something so beautiful and almost hypnotizing about them! Do you know what all of the shapes are called? Here at JBW, we're huge fans of the classic Roman Candle and Brocades.
|
Just as fireworks are icing on the cake of July traditions, so are accessories the cherry on top of our projects. While, yeah, you can totally make something without stitch markers and have a great holiday without fireworks, it just feels wrong not to have them around!
We do, however, recognize that due to social distancing measures, 4th of July fireworks have been cancelled in some places. While we're a little bummed, that won't stop us from celebrating in our own way at home!
|
|
Available in all shapes, sizes, and colors, the excitement never ends when it comes to cocoknits! Perfect to customize to your style and needle size, you can truly make your own exciting rainbow show of stitch markers and color code them for your personal needs! Use red for your wrong side and green for your right side or designate colors to help you remember what stitches to do in each section!
And unlike fireworks, they're reusable!
|
|
Like a sweet peach cobbler, your projects need a good recipe to follow! Just having a visual checklist of the yarn it calls for, needles it requires, and the difficulty level helps so much when it comes to picking out The One. Could you imagine just trying to go off of a picture? Surely an important detail would be missed like a teaspoon of cinnamon or a cheeky little twisted stitch!
|
|
We want to make sure you have the best opportunity to find that perfect recipe with ease! By emailing us at support@JimmyBeansWool.com, calling toll free (in the US and Canada) at (877)529-5648, or using our Livechat feature, our award-winning customer service team will take it from there!
Jimmy Beans now has a program for those who are concerned about accessing your patterns or buying new ones.
|
By paying us for the pattern, we will then purchase it for you at retail price and have it sent to your email address and Ravelry account if applicable.
Note: You do not need a Ravelry account to participate.

Project On Our Needles!
Nicole's Rainbow Smiles Pullover
You know when you see a shade of purple so gorgeous, you just have to make something with it? That feeling when you lose sleep because it was so beautiful that it brought a tear to your eye? Well, that's how our Queen of Crochet, Nicole, felt when she laid her eyes upon a hank of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in the shade The Feels.
She quickly squirreled it away and began to "window-shop" for a good crochet pattern.
Proudly strutting in one day, Nicole showed off this beauty! To reflect the warm weather, she adjusted the sleeves of this top-down raglan to end just above her elbow. Opting out of the rainbow motif from the original design, Nicole expertly crafted a palette of blues and pinks to tie the whole thing together!
