| Craft for the Cure, Kentia Shawl, and Katrinkles! What Would Wonder Woman Do?! | | |
We're quickly creeping up on the month of October, and we want to celebrate! Think of it as a month-long Flashback Friday. That's right, we're bringing back an oldie but a goodie for a great cause! October just so happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness month and to celebrate the strength of those who battle with this disease, we're bringing back one of our most popular October projects!
Inspired by our incredible HR liaison, Mindy, who has personally fought and won this hard battle, we felt the impact this journey had on her, and we wanted to do our part in supporting her as well as other warriors like her. Breast cancer affects roughly 1 in every 8 women throughout their lifetimes.

This project comes in a cute little paint can that you pop open to reach the yarn and pattern inside! You can paint your project with your needles and crochet hooks as your trusty paintbrush!

Want a little extra pink to sprinkle into your life? We've received a full restock of that perfect shade to finish other projects or stock your stash for a cause! Available in Pashmina, Tosh Sock, and Tosh Vintage, indulge in the warmth of Fragrant, Geranium, and Rose!

We may be a little biased here, but women are, like, pretty darn great, dontcha think? One could even say they're wonderful! Throughout history, women have been the cornerstone of many incredible achievements and the catalyst for progression in a society that hasn't always been in favor of us. Iconic moments like the Women's Suffrage Movement paved the way for us to have the right to vote, and while we still fight for equality, we're miles ahead of where we started. Media has begun to mirror this, switching the focus to women protagonists with strong ideals and likable personalities.

That's why we're so excited about this collaboration with Carissa Browning, who designed this incredible Wonder Woman Cowl! Now we're really strutting our stuff into autumn with a statement piece that's also cozy and warm!
This project uses Madelinetosh Tosh DK in the shades Onyx and Liquid Gold to make a striking W shape to pay homage to one of our favorite strong ladies out there! Mirroring the gold in her bracers, we're excited to get this project in our bags in time for the newest movie!

Want to show your excitement for the most recent installment in one of our favorite superhero universes? This kit comes with a limited edition magnet pin that you can place on your finished cowl (or use as a swanky shawl magnet). The magnet itself is super strong, making it perfect for any accessory out there (we recommend sliding it to one side to get it to release)!

Ring In Fall with The Kentia Shawl!
As the weather begins to change (because the mornings have seriously been a little chilly here recently), a lot of the Beans have been bringing their beloved plants inside to care for them and make sure they survive the coming winter. While this works for little things like small succulents and palms, we wish we could bring in our trees and have them produce apples and peaches all year long in an indoor orchard!
|
Unfortunately, that's not something we can do, but we can always do the next best thing and knit up an homage to that lovely greenery with the new Koigu Kentia Shawl!
The Kentia palm is a species of palm plant native to Australia - it grows slowly but is absolutely gorgeous once its fronds start getting bigger and bigger. Our marketing team used to have a palm in their room named Peter. He was loved dearly before his untimely passing due to overwatering. Seriously - plants can be SO finicky!

That's why we love the fiber arts so much. We can give all of the love possible to them, and they won't just up and die on you (unless a pet gets to them, but that's beside the point). The Koigu Kentia Shawl lets us smother it without any fuss - in fact, the more you love it, the better it gets! Designed by the incredible Ambah O'Brien, the woven look of this shawl feels both fresh and cozy contrasted by eye-catching chevrons! This kit comes with 5 full skeins of Koigu KPM yarn and 10 mini-skeins, and by now, you already know how we feel about small skeins of yarn! Needles and pattern are available for separate purchase.
And, of course, the best part? You can't kill this one! (RIP Peter :'( )

Sock It To 'Em!
As kids, we always hated when we opened up a gift and it was just...
Socks.
However, now as adults, we relish in the idea of socks as gifts! Nothing is better than slipping your foot into a warm sock and snuggling up with your toes staying toasty! Er.. Toes-ty? But for us makers, why would we wait for the holidays to be the recipient of socks when we could just make them ourselves?
We're excited to announce that we've had a re-sock of Madelinetosh Tosh Sock yarn! This fingering-weight yarn is made out of a 100% superwash merino wool and each skein holds a generous 395 yards, which makes for great one-skein projects including, you guessed it, socks! Hand-dyed with skill and appreciation for what it will become, each skein of Madelinetosh yarn is a treasure trove of love, given to it by our incredible dye team over in Fort Worth, Texas!
Can't seem to sate that color craving? By ordering away even when it says we have 0 in inventory, we will reach out to you and let you know how long it'll take to get that item back in stock - no minimums necessary! Do you fondly remember making with a shade we no longer have on the site? By reaching out to us, we can figure out a solution to fix that ASAP!

Adrienne's Accessories!
It's no surprise that we love our accessories. It never feels like our project bags are complete unless we have one or two (or five) little buddies to give our actual project some well-deserved company! From necessary notions like darning needles and stitch markers all the way to things that we got because "they just look cute" like leather tags, these accessories show off our fun personalities pretty well too. After all, why would you get a boring ol' needle gauge when you could get one shaped like an elephant!?

Imagine you're walking around in your newest sweater. You finished it last week, and it finally can be worn. It's snug, cozy, warm, and-- oh no! You snag your sleeve on a rogue bush! It tears to one side, and you're left with a jagged hole on your garment! Ugh! Luckily, you have a little notion stored away for this exact situation! You pull out the Katrinkles Darning and Mending Loom Kit and quickly get to work! This tiny treasure includes a darning loom, heddle, elastic tie, tapestry needles, and instructions to make your repair go as smoothly as possible. Before you know it, you'll be back on your way - no bush is going to ruin your day now!
|
Okay, a show of hands, who loves cats around here? We know we do - that's why we can't stop getting cute accessories that pay homage to our fuzzy friends! Their tiny ears, little noses, and wispy whiskers fill us with so much joy - why wouldn't we want to be reminded of them when we're deep in thought over our projects? With the Katrinkles Write On/Wipe Off Project Tags, you can stay organized in a smart (and cute) way! These reusable tags are perfect gifts for yourself or a friend - write on them with a permanent marker to make a note for yourself and clean it with rubbing alcohol. Easy peasy!

It's never too early to start working on Christmas gifts (after all, that's why we love Craftvent so much!), and Katrinkles seems to agree with us with their adorable Stitchable Ornaments, available in a plethora of wintery shapes (and maker's staples) like stockings, mittens, beanies, and even little fair isle sweaters!
Each shape is laser cut into bamboo and looks incredible hanging off of your Christmas tree or even on your bag or purse!
|
Of course, we can't talk about notions and accessories without bringing up stitch markers! Handmade in Rhode Island, these super-cute stitch markers help keep track of your knitting while showing off your love for your project! The heart shapes and adorable yarny images are laser cut and then finished by hand to smooth the corners and edges. Each set of Katrinkles Stitch Markers comes with 6 fun-sized hearts to decorate your next colorwork project with! The closures are easy to open and remove when you're finished.

Picture this: You're sitting on your balcony. The sun went down a few hours ago, and the chill of the night has finally settled into your bones. You wrap a scarf around your shoulders and pull your knees up to your chest after taking a nice, warm sip of hot cocoa. Your partner, friend, or loved family member points up, "Look!"
You gaze up at the stars and witness the pure magic of the northern lights dancing above your heads. Emerald green, bright magenta, and royal purple melt together like a living painting, and you stare in awe as you see the colors of your scarf reflected in the expansive sky.

This is how we're going to be spending our winter this year after finishing up the 2020 Jimmy Beans Craftvent Calendar. Today, we're focusing on the Northern Lights colorway! Inspired by the chilly nights and wondrous colors in the sky, indulge in an - almost - month-long project! For knitters and crocheters alike, the 2020 Craftvent project offers a fun experience for adventurous beginners and beyond! The knit version of this project was dreamed up by our own Bean, Amy Gunderson, while the incredible CocoCrochetLee took up the mantle of designer for the crochet version!
This project begins on December 1st and will have its own Facebook group to chat with other people about the techniques and skills needed for each section of these scarves. And the best part? By the end of it, you just made your own present for Christmas, and now you can wear it all season long. Talk about a win-win!

Project On Our Needles!
Rowan's Samana Wrap
We weren't kidding when we said it's finally shawl season around here! Rowan took this to heart and made one of the coziest knits we've seen in quite some time! Designed by Martin Storey, this design is available as a free Ravelry download! The fun and playful color story and use of texture made his needles sing, and we can't stop squishing it!
This project used 10 hanks of Rowan Island Blend Fine to make a luxurious and positively scrumptious scarf!
