Every once in awhile, we happen upon an instruction in knitting that makes absolutely no sense,
and, no matter how many places we search for help, we just can't seem to make heads or tails of
what we're supposed to do next. "Casting on to the end of a row" seems to be one of those instructions.
When might you need this, you ask? Well, I've come across the idea most often in the Knitting Pure &
Simple Patterns. In those patterns, you are knitting a sweater from the top down and need to cast
onto the end of the row once you're ready to work solely on the body of the sweater.
There are 4 simple steps to follow. These steps are highlighted below.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
Step 1. Place the needle in your right hand & hold the yarn with your left hand.
Step 2. Using your left hand, create a loop by flipping your wrist counter-clockwise.
Step 3. Slip the needle through the loop that you just created.
Step 4. Pull the tail of the yarn tightly. You have just "casted" 1 stitch onto the right needle.
This month, we've decided to add the directions for a
baby bootie and hat set to our catalog of complimentary patterns.
To create the set as shown, you'll need 2 hanks of
Lornas Laces Angel Yarn - a hand dyed Angora that is as soft as a bunny itself.
One hank of the Angel is enough for the hat, while the 2nd hank is perfect for 2 booties.
This project is perfect for those last minute gifts - as it only takes about 30 minutes to
create each bootie - and an hour or so for the hat.
Check it out - and let us know what you think!
Kit of the month
Every month we feature a new yarn + pattern combination at a special kit-of-the-month discount...
This month's featured kit is the
Karabella Gossamer Triangular Shawl Kit
regularly $50.00 ... on sale for $40.00!! What better time than Spring to work on a lightweight
shawl for those chilly evenings. There is just the slightest bit of sparkle to this yarn, making
it perfect for the more formal events of the Summer. And a quick knit, too!
This kit will be available at the sale price through the end of the month (sale ends May 31, 2006).
TRUCKEE 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Can you believe that it's been 4 years since we opened the Truckee store? Me neither.
Although I do feel a bit older (maybe because I am?), I can't express to you how grateful
I am for the last 4 years. Through the knitting store(s), I have met so many wonderful
and generous people (most knitters are, i've decided), have been invited to customers' houses,
and have developed friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you for that.
So, as a thanks to all of you (in-store and online customers), we're conducting a special sale week.
Each day of the week (M-F), one of our most popular yarns will be heavily discounted online and in both of our stores.
Note that these sale prices won't be advertised in advance on our website - only newsletter subscribers
and in-store customers receive that benefit.
Sale prices are limited to stock on hand. We try to ensure that the inventory numbers are correct on our
website, but sometimes we do make mistakes (I know, it's hard to believe). If the inventory numbers look low, you might want to write an
alternate color in the comments box when you check out.
TEAM JIMMY BEANS...MEET HANNAH
Employee of the Month :: Hannah
If you've called us during the week, you've most likely spoken with Hannah. She's been knitting for years and,
like most of us, just can't seem to stop buying yarn. It's a good thing for employee discounts! Currently,
Hannah is teaching both our knitting and crochet classes in the Reno store. A wonderful teacher with a super
kind spirit, you can't go wrong by signing up for one of her sessions.
In late May/early June, we're expecting a huge shipment of
Rosewood Circular Needles from Lantern Moon.
Yep, these are the glorious needles that you've been reading about in all of the magazines.
At $24 a set, they are definitely not the least expensive needles on the market, but they are unquestionably the best.
Come to think of it, in what other area of our lives can we
shell out $24 and get the most luxurious, top quality product in return? And a product that will last the rest
of our lives (well, as long as the dog doesn't chew on them)!
So make sure to add a pair of your favorite size to your shopping cart the next time you are ordering yarn.
Or drop a few pair into your Wish List - there is always a gift-giving holiday right around the corner :)
Or do like some of us at the shop -- work 1 pair into your yarn budget each month - before you know it,
you'll have all the whole collection!
(If you order an
of a particular length (9 different sizes), you'll get 10% off!)
Available in Sizes 4-11 and lengths of 16",26",32",40."
NEW TRUCKEE SUMMER HOURS - CLOSED WEDNESDAYS
Well, it's springtime in the Sierras and everyone deserves a vacation! Given that, we're going to be closed on
Wednesdays for the Summer. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but I'm sure you all
understand - and we thank you in advance for understanding. And please let us know if you'd like to log a
few hours working in the knitting store here - we can always use more help in our Truckee store.
Thanks for reading and Happy Knitting!
Please let us know what you think of our newsletter or if you have problems reading it! Questions? Comments? Suggestions? email firstname.lastname@example.org
And please don't forget to support your LYS. In addition to being an online outlet, we also have
2 retail locations and therefore understand how important it is to be supported by our locals.
We only send the newsletter to people who have requested they be added to the list.
