Odd proportions, but cute yarn
I bought several balls of this for my 6-year-old.
While the patterns are adorable and I do enjoy working with the toothier yarn, the proportions for the finished socks are quite off.
If I use a 56 stitch count and size 1 needles, I end up with a leg that is halfway up his shin, but then the patterned part of the foot ends halfway down his foot. As a result, the contrast color for the toe ends up starting a good 15 rounds before I've finished knitting the foot. I still have enough yarn, but it would have worked better if there had been less patterned yarn before the heel and more after.
I was able to get a full pair out of it, but if you're picky about leg length and need it for larger than a little kids size 12, you're going to have to do some yarn manipulation, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Decent Tough Sock Yarn
I'm updating my earlier review, and adding one star based on the finished product.
My earlier comment on the scratchiness still stands, as this is definitely a rougher wool to work with than Merino, and the Madtosh BFL is . That being said, the finished product is not at all itchy or scratchy, though it still lacks the softness of merino.
Once blocked the fabric becomes much smoother, though again still not quite as soft as most of the merino and some other BFL I've worked with. The stitch definition is great, and even though it's 100% wool these are wearing beautifully. After several full days of being worn both in boots and on their own around the house these show very little wear, and feel like they will last forever.
I will be using this yarn again, even though it's not quite as nice to work with as some of the softer yarns.

Lovely and squishy, but color is WAY off!
I just ordered the lovely Orquidea colorway, which according to the picture is a lovely mix of pastel blue, green and purple with a lot of white.
The hank I received, however, was forest green, dark purple and navy blue. I understand that sometimes colors differ slightly, but this was WAY way off.
Otherwise the yarn seemed squishy and lovely, but it's not the colors I was expecting at all.

Good stitch definition, but scratchy to work with.
I haven't blocked the sock I'm knitting with this yet so I don't know if the yarn blooms with blocking, but so far to work with it's been quite scratchy compared to the the Madtosh Merino base.
Also, the base color of the yarn is quite off-white, which I only discovered after ordering Cosmic Wonder Dust in both the merino and BFL bases. This version is far yellower, not nearly as pretty.
Overall, I prefer the regular Madtosh sock.

Really like this one!
I have very much enjoyed working with this yarn. I purchased the Crayon colorway, and had plenty for a pair of women's socks. The yarn is good quality very soft, consistent weight, and not at all splitty. The color was not as vibrant in person, though, which was a little disappointing. I'd definitely consider buying it in another colorway, though!

Update: Do NOT recommend
I wrote an earlier review based on the fact that the yarn I received was significantly different than pictured Cupcake is neon, not pastel. Having worked with this for a month, though, I am updating my review and taking away a star.
There are a couple things I do like. Though I don't love neons, the colors are nice though a little heathered, and I like that it's a gradient, and I was able to get two PAIRS of size-7 socks out of it.
I have huge issues, however, with the yarn quality. First of all it is very splitty, which I really don't like. Secondly, the weight is inconsistent in parts some sections are quite thick almost sport weight and others are extremely thin lace-like. This makes me worry about the durability, which is a big problem for socks. And finally, the length of the color changes is inconsistent. The very middle of the cake is orange, and this section is almost twice the length of the other colors annoying when you can barely see it in the picture.
Overall, the colors might be nice, but I don't recommend it due to the quality of the yarn.

Okay...
First of all, please take this review with a grain of salt as I have not yet knit this up yet.
That being said, the photo for this was way off. Yes, I know monitors can distort shades, etc., but the photo for cupcake shows various pastels what I got was very saturated, almost neon.
Also, the texture is extremely odd to tell from the ball because it looks like it comes from a sock blank very kinky, which was also not in the description.
So far, I'm a little disappointed, but I will try to update my review once I use the yarn.

So much fun!
I've gotten two so far, and I've really liked them.
The first month was my favorite all shades of plum and grey, which I really enjoyed. The second month's colors were all baby poop yellow-brown, but the fiber itself was nice I'll probably just use it as scrap yarn for afterthought heels or mitten thumbs.
I also loved the little buttons and stitch markers that came in my first bag! I don't usually browse the notions section of JBW so having samples sent to me is a nice way to discover things I wouldn't otherwise find.
As for the bag itself, it's a great size for storing needles, notions and scrap yarn, but it would be nice if they were a little bigger to accommodate small projects, and if the zipper was better quality the zippers they have currently catch on the yarn and are quite finicky.
I've really been enjoying receiving these bags the anticipation and surprise is definitely worth the $10!
