| Swell Shades of Scheepjes + NEW Pom Pom Issue! Reno Retreat Seats Available! | | |
This week, we experienced a chill in the air. Walking outside, we've realized we aren't immediately sweating upon exiting our houses - could it be?! The breath of fall is approaching, and our maker's hearts couldn't be more excited! That means larger projects, chunky bases, and sumptuous wool blends. But we aren't quite convinced the heat has left for good, so it's best to be on our toes. We've picked up some transitional yarns that make this confusing time easier to navigate.
One of our favorites as of late has been Woolfolk Stra. This yarn brings the rustic feel of fall to our needles and hooks without being harsh on the skin. Woolfolk Stra has a marled effect to each skein, breathing new life into your project effortlessly! Each skein is a supersoft blend of Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino and linen, making this yarn perfect for the changing of seasons, offering not only beautiful color stories but texture as well, transforming easy patterns into something spectacular! Holding 164 yards per skein, this worsted-weight yarn feels light but is a heavy hitter in terms of texture!

Nothing quite beats the feeling of curling up after a long day with things that bring you joy. Whether it be a book, your knitting, or simply a nice cup of tea or a dessert, winding down from the day is our favorite part of the evening - it's like a little treat! Tonight, we've chosen to partake in all three, a book in the ways of Pom Pom Quarterly, some knitting, and a yummy pudding!
In Pom Pom Quarterly - Issue 38, focus on the mild temperatures of autumn and crisp morning air. That's right, the theme of this issue is "roots and branches", focusing on texture like cables and other clever stitch patterns that were designed to mimic the labyrinthine imagery found in nature.
With autumn being recognized as a transitional season, you can bet these designs are crafted with love to keep you warm and cozy as the temperature dips and winds pick up.
Like all Pom Pom Quarterly magazines, this issue features beautiful imagery accompanying the patterns to really set the mood of each piece to the forefront. This magazine also has insightful articles and a recipe for something super yummy (hint: it's a very flavorful pudding) - there's a little something for everybody. It also tackles the issues within the textile industry, challenging our perception of pollution and microplastics.
Care to peruse Pom Pom's other offerings? In Pom Pom Quarterly - Issue 37, the theme revolves around birds and their beautiful colors and textures. The featured designers thought carefully about these animals, from their brilliant feathers down to the shape of their footprints! As for Pom Pom Quarterly - Issue 34, the theme revolves around the cozy, dreamy state of being at home on a cold day. With beautiful pieces mirroring the colors and feelings that autumn evokes, it's hard to keep our hands off of this one!

A Halloween Highlight
It's funny how big holidays work. When one ends, the other immediately begins - it's only August but we're already getting our ghoulish gear on! Donning creepy masks, fun costumes, and consuming way more candy than we really should, we can't help but wonder, "what about our projects?". Certainly they're taking a trip down Spooky Street, too, right? Of course they are! We've been busy Beans packing our annual Fright Club projects this year, and you can bet these spellbound strings were wound by our warehouse witches, filling JBW HQ with cackles of delight!
This week, we're focusing on the adorable All Treats, No Tricks beanie! The annual Jimmy Beans Wool Fright Club project puts colorful colorwork on full display, brought to life by our very own Bean, Amy Gunderson!
Broken down into 13 cute monster boxes, this sprint to the finish line was designed to be worked on 13 days straight to end in a cute colorwork hat in no time! The chevron motifs are fun and a little funky, offset by the dots that are found between every peak and valley.
This project uses the strings of Madelinetosh Twist Light, a strong fingering-weight yarn with the addition of nylon to keep the stretch and strength lasting long, perfect for a stretchy hat brim and for keeping this project as cozy and comfortable as possible! Not only is it super cute and comfortable, but it's available for both knitters and crocheters alike!

Funky. Chunky. Monkey!
With the temperature slowly (but surely!) dropping, we've experienced some pretty pleasant weather around here lately (y'know, save for the smoke). With these temps hovering around the mid-80s, we've started to put some thought into what we're gonna make for autumn - do you have any plans yet?
Well, for all of you who are undecided, we've got the yarn for you! Made out of premium anti-pilling acrylic comes Scheepjes Chunky Monkey yarn! Notebook Note Taking
Staying organized can be a bit of a challenge for us makers. Being creative guarantees some level of chaos to our daily lives. Whether it be a messy stash, unfinished WIPs here and there, or a making room where you have to step over boxes filled with yarn and needles - some of the Beans can certainly relate!
To help in our organizational needs comes the Laine Magazine My Knitting Notes book in a chic mustard color.
Each book contains space for up to 31 knitting projects (with each project taking up 4 pages), 6 pages for keeping track of your yarn purchases, efficiently making your stash easier to navigate, 18 gridded pages for charts and colorwork sketches, knitting needle sizes and conversion table, and a page of the most common abbreviations. Whew! Talk about handy!

The woven book cover and ribbon place marker pull this book together making it the perfect gift for any maker in your life, keeping them organized in a fun, modern way!

Project On Our Needles!
Winni's Fossil Fern Scarf
The temperatures have been hovering around the mid-80s this week, which has kickstarted our need to knit for autumn, and our Bean, Winni, certainly did not disappoint! Surprising us with this enormous masterpiece, she waltzed into the shop one day flaunting the impressive wingspan! Using two different shades of Freia Fine Handpaints Shawl Ball Fingering, Winni relaxed with this beginner-friendly piece, knitting it up while she watched her favorite shows in the background. Using simple stitches and short-rows, the self-shading yarn did a bunch of heavy lifting to create something gorgeous and eyecatching to boot!
Good news! The Fossil Fern Scarf is available as a kit on our site with multiple color and size options!
