Whether you are a fan of the show or love zombie lore in general, we've got the perfect color for you this month! Inspired by the rustic and woodsy hues of the post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies (with a healthy splash of deep blood red for good measure), the Walking Dead color is getting us excited for the seasonal debut of one of our favorite spooky and suspenseful shows! We've had many a request for a color inspired by this show, and we thought October would be the perfect month to release the walkers! But since we know how slowly they actually walk, we know you'll be able to escape unscathed, yarn in hand... right?
| But in case you do get bit... By the knitting bug we mean, we've got a new MKAL for you as well! Kristen is back with a super fun Walking Dead inspired MKAL that will start on Sunday, October 11th when the show premieres for the season! And because the show is suspenseful enough on its own, we won't keep you in the dark about what type of project you will be making (the exact details of the design are the mystery!), so head on over to Ravelry to find out what you'll be knitting! |
If you are ready to sign up, we've got Walking Dead MKAL Kits with the Shepherd Sock yarn and the pattern download code (as well as several other color options... Zombie BBQ anyone?) all packaged up and ready for you to get knitting on the 11th!
Psst! Local Reno customers! Planning to participate in the Walking Dead MKAL? We've got a FREE weekly class on Saturdays with Kristen for the duration of the MKAL where you'll receive the clues a day early, plus tips and tricks on each section of the pattern! See our October class descriptions for details! |

As with any trade, a crafter is only as good as her tools, and we've got some new ones that are really stellar! | You asked, and they listened: Knitter's Pride has created color-coded cords! Available in the full range of cord lengths (16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 47, and 60 inches), each length is a different color so you can spot the one you need lickety-split - no more dragging out that tape measure to sort out your cords! All of the newer interchangeable sets will come with the colored cords, too - but don't worry, the black ones are still available for purchase a la carte! And that's not all - they've also sent us new Ball Winders, Trendz Interchangeable Tunisian Crochet Hooks, and something extra-special for you color-lovers: Marblz Interchangeable Sets! |
Now that you've got your new needles, hooks, and cords taken care of, CocoKnits is here to help you take care of your notions and finished projects! The Knitter's Keep kits are the perfect solution to keeping track of your bits and pieces like stitch markers and cable needles (no more finding them in your hair after they escape from behind your ear!): a magnetic snap bracelet (like the ones we wore in the 80s!) holds them for you!
They work beautifully with the Cocoknits Multicolored Stitch Markers or Yarn Snips, if you need a few extra tools (and who doesn't!)! The Sweater Care Kit has everything you need for washing and blocking finished projects, including a pop-up drying rack and an ingenious towel with a blocking grid printed right onto it! Neat! |

The results are in! Our first ever Binge MKAL/MCAL! combo was a huge success! So successful in fact, that we did a 2nd round of the Binge Mystery Knit and Crochet Along last weekend. In case you are waiting to see the final projects before joining in, our designers, Leanne and Rachel, made a fun video that reveals the finished designs and how to wear them! Ready to get started? We've still got kits for both projects - knit or crochet, and there is still tons of great conversation and tips over in the Ravelry threads for both the MKAL and MCAL! And if the Crocheters of the group are wondering when we'll be hosting our next MCAL, we've got you covered! Stay tuned for another early next year! |

We're amazed at all the fresh and fabulous yarns for fall - each one is more marvelous than the last, and we can't wait to start knitting and crocheting with them! Here are a few of our favorite project dreams and the yarns you'll need to make them a reality: | The Otoño Shawl from the Juniper Moon Farm Garden Collection just feels like fall - hey, the name even means "autumn"! Three colors of new Herriot Fine (a deliciously soft lace-weight blend of alpaca with just a touch of nylon for strength) blend together into a light and lacy knit in shades that will give those fall colors a run for their money! For more from this excellent collection, check out the Hedera Smoke Ring, Clematis Cardigan and Mossery Cardigan - they're all gorgeous! |
The carefully curated yarns from The Fibre Company never disappoint, and their newest is no exception: introducing Cumbria! It's a perfectly balanced blend of sturdy masham and soft merino wools with just a bit of mohair for loft, and the 14 colors are beautiful! We love it in the wonderfully textured Keswick Cardigan, but the Penrith Scarf and Greenrow Hat are equally stunning - in fact, the entire Cumbria Collection is just magnificent!
| Debbie Bliss wasn't going to be left out in the cold this fall - and neither will you, after you knit up something toasty and warm in her new fall yarns! For a super-quick and ultra-cozy knit, whip up the poncho-style Sleeveless Top in beautiful, boucle-style alpaca blend Lara - it's as simple as can be, and perfect for a winter wardrobe staple! The Moss Stitch Jacket has all the comfort of a blanket, but you can actually wear it out of the house - and in terrifically tweedy Roma Weave, you'll want to wear it everywhere! |
But we've saved the most special for last: Boheme is a uniquely irresistible color combination of a black base with brightly colored, interwoven strands that create a subtly marled look that's sure to elicit compliments! In the chic and classy Ribbed Capelet, you'll feel like a star and stay warm all winter long! Take a look at all the clever kits using Lara, Roma Weave, and Boheme - the hard part is deciding! |

| We're thrilled to be part of the Dream Club featuring delicious Dream in Color yarns and lovely patterns to boot! September's special yarn is Jilly, a gorgeous, fingering-weight merino wool single-ply, in two warm and inviting fall-inspired colorways (a multi and a tonal) that has us wanting to sip warm cider by a roaring fire! |
And Romi Hill designed a beautiful shawl to show it off: Something Autumnal is simple enough to let the hand-dyed color really shine, with delicate lace details and a comfortable shape. The pattern download code comes free with purchase of the yarn!
And October's color and pattern are equally stunning: Everlasting, a DK blend of Australian wool with amazing twist, comes with TWO free patterns! Both are fingerless mitts.
The knitted version, En Plein Air, was designed by Jimmy Martinez and features a strap with a button for decoration and a nice close fit, something Monet would have worn while painting en plein air (outdoors) on a chilly day!
The crocheted set, Water Lilies, designed by Susan Sellers, showcase a unique chain foundation and decorative textural stitches that evoke Monet's famous painting of the same name.
| Zen Yarn Garden created two gorgeous limited edition colorways, called the Art Walk Series, to kick off fall: Van Gogh and Strawberries! Available in heavenly Serenity 20, a fingering-weight, sleek and sumptuous blend of merino wool, cashmere, and nylon, these exquisite colors are limited-run, meaning that once we're out, we're out! |

| As many knitting or crocheting fangirls (or guys!) know, meeting a knitwear designer you love can be an exciting event! Many of our retail customers found this out when they got to meet prolific shawl designer, Romi Hill last month at her book signing for New Lace Knits! Romi brought along with her some fun behind-the-scenes items to share, including her workbook of sketches and swatches from her book! |
She shared with the group some of her favorite short row techniques (Japanese, and wrap and turns) as well as her favorite tip for seaming shoulders to look seamless even when they aren't (hint: it involves the Kitchener technique!).
Probably the highlight of the event was her massive fingering weight swatch, which looks like a beautiful gradient lace scarf, but really is a guide to fingering weight yarns and their different fiber compositions and behaviors.
What a brilliant use of yarn scraps! It's beautiful AND useful for future projects-plus it makes a great scarf in a pinch!
