It's that time again: Sunday, May 8 is Mother's Day, so we're making this month's Micro-Brewed Series installments all about Mom! Our dyers this month took their color inspirations from their favorite literary moms, and they all just happen to also be classics (that you probably read as a child). They're all among our favorites, too - after all, there's nothing like warm childhood memories to make you feel close to Mom! Whether you're treating a special mother you know, or yourself, these beautiful colors are sure to warm hearts everywhere!
And, as a little bonus this month, Jackie from Lucky Violet Color Co. (aka. J.L. Fleckenstein on Ravelry) is hosting a special Mother's Day KAL and has offered anyone who purchases one of these April Micro-Brewed yarns a copy of the KAL pattern. A download code will be included with your order.

| First up, let's give a warm welcome to Hedgehog Fibres, a new-to-us dyer all the way from Cork, Ireland! Beata, the owner and head dyer of Hedgehog, fondly remembers reading the Louisa May Alcott books as a child (in particular, one with 4 spirited daughters and their very loving, very resilient mother!), so her color this month channels the warm feelings of love and protection inspired by Marmee. "Little Women" is a multi-hued palette of creams and greys with hints of calming brown, speckled with blues, reds, oranges, and pinks that are reminiscent of the colors of the antebellum era in which the story takes place. |
The generous 437 yards in each hank is ideal for a small shawl like the Anjou from Fiber Dreams, or cast on for Hermione's Everyday Socks like the ones Laura knit recently on vacation! For more one-of-a-kind colorways, visit the Hedgehog Fibres website! | /tr>

Sometimes your mom is at her best when she's showing a little of the mama bear in her; Dana from Unwind Yarn Company feels just so about Caroline Ingalls in Laura Ingalls Wilder's books about life growing up on the prairie! She called to mind the time when "Ma" stood up to mean Mrs. Olson when she mistreated Laura. Dyed on the Rendezvous Sport Sock base, "Always a Lady" is a mix of bold blues (the color of Ma's eyes), pretty purples, and speckled greens like the vibrant flowers and wild grasses of the American plains, plus the chambray clothing that early settlers often wore. | |
Mixed with cool cream, it's a balm for the eyes and the soul, and would look absolutely fantastic in an easy-fitting (and hands-free, for doing those prairie chores!) Button Lace Cowl by Grace Akhrem, or a pair of sportweight socks, like the Simple Skyp Socks, FREE from Adrienne Ku on Ravelry!

| A mother knows her child by instinct, and that feeling never goes away - no matter how far (or high) her child may fly! We know of a certain little elephant whose mother showed him unconditional, protective love, but let him go at the right moment so he could have his moment to shine.
And that was the inspiration for Jackie of Lucky Violet Color Co. as she was thinking of the special bond between mothers and children this month! |
Jackie and her daughter have a special spot in their hearts for the Little Golden Book version of "Dumbo" that they used to read together, and "Mrs. Jumbo" is a homage to the beautiful vintage watercolor illustrations in the original version: a sweet and sentimental blend of peach and grays with bold black speckles that are perfectly on-trend! We don't know about you, but we think Jackie's daughter said it best when she said, "a mother's love can give her child wings!"!Head on over to the Lucky Violet Color Co. to pick some more wonderful colorways! And don't forget that this color is perfect for Jackie's Mother's Day KAL, and the pattern download code comes free with the purchase of any April color!
