DEAR JIMMY: What is the best way to connect squares in an Afghan? - Cynthia
DEAR CYNTHIA:
Being the middle woman can be a difficult task to take on, as afghan squares can have a mind of their own! It's difficult to gauge the compatible interest in another square when they have never formally met, but it's a risk you're willing to take and a noble effort to boot! You can start by having them exchange phone numbers to let them connect organically, but if that solution just isn't cutting it, or if you're on a time crunch, you have to take matters into your own, crafty hands.
One of my favorite ways to connect my squares is by using the Invisible Seam method, also known as the Mattress Stitch! This method is not only easy to learn, but the "S" movements with your darning needle are just so satisfying to make! By using this seaming method, the join is strong and, well, invisible!
