| Leap Day Cowl, our mYak Pop-Up, and New Berroco!
We've been so wrapped up in making 2020 a great year for us with all of the new notions, patterns, and, of course, yarn that we almost forgot that this year is ALSO a leap year! That changes the whole game for us! Do you know what you're gonna use your extra day for yet?
|
Perhaps... staying HOME to knit all day? Hint, hint, wink, wink. |
We've got a kit that will knit up in a day to keep you occupied on the 29th of February! Just think of how glorious it will be - a whole extra day to knit?! Sign. Us. Up! Lovingly designed by our resident wool-whiz, Amy Gunderson, comes the one-skein wonder, the Leap Day Cowl! Using Madelinetosh Home yarn, indulge in a free pattern for a cheeky little cowl that's perfect for celebrating this special weekend! There are 29 rows to signify the 29 days this month, and the i-cord edge gives a little bit of a drape to your project! This kit does not come with needles, but we do recommend using a US size 11 - 16".

Please note that Home is a discontinued base, making this one of the last chances for you to get your hands (needles?) on some!

mYak is where the romantic and bustling land of Italy meets the gorgeous, lofty plateaus of Tibet! We interviewed the brains behind mYak Tibetan Fibres on our blog here! There, you can read their story in-depth regarding how they source their luscious fibers, their decision to not bleach their yarn, and how they work with the nomadic yak herders in Nepal!
|
|
Every step of the journey is important to them and highly respected, ranging from the land itself to the animals and the shearers. The pattern shown is the Hipster Shawl by Joji Locatelli.
The unique color story of mYak Tibetan Fibers begins with three natural shades of down color (in chocolate, desert, and oatmeal). After the yaks are sheared, the fibers are then dyed by hand, inspired by the earthy tones found within the desert and mountains and complemented with deep, saturated jewel tones!

We always gotta check the specs of new stuff to make sure it's right for our project bags. Ahem. Is this yarn... pretty? Check. Under $15.00 a skein? Check. Squishy (which is basically the most important one)? DOUBLE CHECK.
Introducing Berroco Ultra Wool Fine, a 100% superwash wool yarn that's available in a palette of neutrals and heathered jewel tones!
This fingering-weight yarn is lightweight and machine washable, making every project a breeze not only to create but to maintain as well! Perfect for socks, scarves, shawls, and anything else you can think of!

Bite-Sized Books
Most of us turn to watch an episode of our favorite series while we knit, but sometimes we just crave a new book! New, from Mason Dixon Knitting, come two bite-sized books to get our knitting fix sated! Each book features one designer and comes complete with an assortment of projects you can try your hand at!
No. 12: Big Joy centers around designer Jen Geigley and the joyful gift of giving (both for the giver and the recipient). Her specialty is quick, modern knits that can be paired with anything or given away as presents and donations. Each project utilizes texture and drape with Rowan Big Wool in interesting ways to keep your needles happy and you cozy! To mix things up a little bit, there's a section on making a knitted pie crust to use for your next baking session!
Are you a fan of bright, bold colors? Then No. 13: Master Class is for you! Featuring the ever-joyful Kaffe Fasset and a whole bunch of Rowan Felted Tweed, this book is bursting at the seams with color combinations and imagery within each project! Using stranded colorwork, Kaffe encourages you to play with the idea of color and explains that whenever you introduce a new shade to your knitting, you change the whole composition, making your project an ever-changing work of art!

Adrienne's Accessories
While the star of the show (er... project?) is definitely what yarn we use, we can't let it take all the glory! The accessories we use are just as important! They help us stay on our gauge, keep our rows in order, and mark where we need to start a new technique! To bring the spotlight to the unsung heroes of our craft, these helpful notions have all been hand-selected by our in-house accessories expert, Adrienne!

The cocoknits Maker's Keep magnetic bracelet is the ultimate way to keep your steel notions and accessories on you at all times! Sometimes carrying yet another bag specifically for your stitch markers and darning needles can be cumbersome and, in this case, is completely unnecessary! While the Maker's Keep bracelet is great for knitting, it has other uses as well! Use it to hold pins for sewing, paperclips for organizing, and screws for any DIY project you've ventured into! You can even push the magnet to one end to use as a straightedge! Hibiscus is the newest addition to the cocoknits rainbow, staying true to their signature color palette!
|
For those of us with multiple projects going at once (we don't judge, one of the Beans here has like 7 WiPs waiting to be finished!), it can get very frustrating trying to find that ONE project that we're in the mood for and having to personally dig through each bag! It would be so much easier to use a tag system for them, right?! Katrinkles knows this struggle well, so we picked up these Write On/Wipe Off Project Tags! Each tag can be written on with permanent marker and cleaned with rubbing alcohol when you change projects so we'll never lose that cowl again! Each tag also has a colored ball chain making the attaching and removal process a piece of (yarn) cake!

Choosing our needles is a huge commitment for us, sometimes! Nothing is worse than casting on and coming to the conclusion six rows later that the needles aren't as comfortable as you'd like them to be! Well, luckily for us, Knitter's Pride heard our frustrations and sent us a ton of Ginger needles in Circulars, Double Points, Interchangeables, and more! Made out of birchwood, every needle is unique and has the amazing quality we're always looking for in a new pair: Not too slippery, not too grippy, and the points are great for lacework and chunky knits alike!
