Reno, Nevada -- September 9, 2021--Crafting season is almost here and Jimmy Beans Wool is gearing up to celebrate with the sixth annual Craftvent, a holiday-themed Advent calendar. Three talented designers created stunning yet cozy designs to guide crafters during the holiday season.
This year Craftvent has a little something for every type of maker. There are both knit and crochet options available, along with the chance to choose either a 24-day project or 12-day project.
Designer Ambah O'Brien developed the large knit project called Festive Wrap. O'Brien has a background in painting with a passion for color and interesting design. She was taught by her eight-year-old son in 2012 and knitting has resonated with her ever since.
Janie Crow Designs came up with the large crochet project, which is called the Tidings Wrap. Jane Crowfoot, the creative visionary behind Janie Crow, designs intricate, eye-catching crochet patterns that offer up a little something for everyone.
The Tidings Wrap utilizes a unique construction that begins at the center and works each side outward. Adorable pom-poms are added to the outside using leftover scraps from each day.
Jimmy Beans' own knit and crochet designer Amy Gunderson created both the smaller knit and crochet projects, called 'Tis The Season Mitts. Gunderson owned a pizza place in Iowa City for seven years, which is also where she first learned to knit in between making pizzas. In addition to being a designer, she is also the Yarn Director at Jimmy Beans Wool.
The 'Tis The Season Mitts is a sampler of textured stitch patterns so each day will give makers the opportunity to learn new techniques.
"Coming up with the 'Tis The Season Mitts' design brought back memories of my first winter in Reno," Gunderson recalled. "Everyone needs a pair of mitts during that time of year to keep their hands warm, so it was an obvious design choice.
"Plus, I've always loved a sampler of stitches because it reminds me of the holiday season, home, and cozying up with a handmade quilt in front of the fireplace."
The yarns used in the project kits were created by Neighborhood Fiber Co, Moondrake Co,, and Madelinetosh.
Neighborhood Fiber Co. was born in a basement in Washington D.C. in 2006 and in that time, the company has developed 14 different yarn bases with more than 70 colors. Neighborhood Fiber Co. has created colorways that will only be found in this exclusive kit.
Moondrake Co. is a hand-dyed yarn company based in Oklahoma and prides itself on creating products for everyday needs using pure and simple ingredients. The yarn it provided for this kit is in keeping with that philosophy..
Madelinetosh started as an Etsy shop in Fort Worth, Texas in 2006 and has grown into one of the leading hand-dyed yarn, companies in the world. In 2019, Madelinetosh was adopted by Jimmy Beans Wool. The rich and vibrant colors found in this kit stay true to the Madelinetosh legacy.
The large calendar itself is reminiscent of a holiday-themed story book with 24 boxes, each containing a day's worth of goodies. There are two color options to choose from, aptly named Buttermint and Ribbon Candy for the large projects. The smaller calendar has 12 individual numbered boxes, giving makers a gift to open each day. Candy Canes and Snow Cones are the color choice options for the smaller projects.

About Jimmy Beans Wool: At the downturn of the dotcom boom, former Silicon Valley engineers Laura and Doug Zander moved to the mountains and opened up a tiny yarn shop in Truckee, California. Jimmy, as Laura is lovingly known, sold coffee alongside the wool (hence the Beans in the name) and Jimmy Beans Wool was born. In 2004, the company settled down in Reno, Nevada where they currently reside today. They occupy an expansive 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse, are considered one of the country's leading destination yarn shops, employ 35 team members, and have built a loyal following and impressive online presence. Along with yarn, Jimmy Beans also provides consumers the most innovative crafting products and accessories, recently acquiring Madelinetosh and della Q, two beloved companies amongst knitters, crocheters, and makers. Jimmy Beans will continue to develop products under their patent pending Jimmy's SmartStix, plus hooks, needles, and notions.
