Reno, Nevada -- March 30, 2023--Laura Zander, co-founder of Jimmy Beans Wool, has officially joined the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
"I'm a former Big Sister, so when the opportunity to play a bigger role arose, I jumped at the chance," Zander said. "I grew up with a single mom and programs similar to Big Brothers Big Sisters made a huge impact on my childhood."
The Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission to help children realize their potential and build their futures is one that's near and dear to many here on the Jimmy Beans Team.
As the nation's largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. They help develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
All it takes is $1,200 to support a match between a Big and a Little for an entire year.
"Our team at Jimmy Beans wanted to show their support by hosting a raffle to raise money for at least one match in 2024," Zander said. "And we'd love your help to achieve that!"
For the entire month of April, Jimmy Beans Wool will be offering $5 digital raffle tickets for purchase with 100% of the proceeds going to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
"We'll be raffling off the ultimate gift just in time for Mother's Day," Zander added. "The winner will be gifted a custom Yarn Bouquet plus they'll be one of the first to have their hands on a brand-new bag from della Q - the Maker's Mesh Tote."
Additionally, the Maker's Mesh Tote will be filled with Reno Rafter 7, a truly local yarn Jimmy Beans created last year with the University of Nevada, Reno. This is a prize with an over $500 value.
Digital Raffle Tickets can be purchased on Jimmy Beans Wool website. For more information about the raffle, visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters raffle page.

About Jimmy Beans Wool: At the downturn of the dotcom boom, former Silicon Valley engineers Laura and Doug Zander moved to the mountains and opened up a tiny yarn shop in Truckee, California. Jimmy, as Laura is lovingly known, sold coffee alongside the wool (hence the Beans in the name) and Jimmy Beans Wool was born. In 2004, the company settled down in Reno, Nevada where they currently reside today. They occupy an expansive 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse, are considered one of the country's leading destination yarn shops, employ 35 team members, and have built a loyal following and impressive online presence. Along with yarn, Jimmy Beans also provides consumers the most innovative crafting products and accessories, recently acquiring Madelinetosh and della Q, two beloved companies amongst knitters, crocheters, and makers. Jimmy Beans will continue to develop products under their patent pending J
