Fidra Hat Project

Gudrun Johnston first designed the Fidra Hat in 2015 while living in Edinburgh, Scotland. At the time, she nearly didn’t publish it—she wasn’t quite happy with the crown shaping. But after a few tweaks, she sent it out into the world and is so glad she did. Over the years, it has become one of her most popular patterns, finding its way onto needles season after season. Recently, she decided it was time to knit another for her own accessory drawer. This time, she paired Jamieson’s of Shetland Heather Aran with Yarn Citizen Trinity Cashmere, creating a beautifully textured, ultra-soft fabric—just the thing to keep the frigid New England temperatures at bay.
