Have you ever wanted to dye your own yarn? This tutorial is for you! Rachel demonstrates step-by-step what you'll need in order to dye your own yarn using Kool-Aid. Natural, un-dyed yarn yields the best results.
What you'll need:
- Natural, undyed yarn
- 2 medium-sized bowls
- Water
- 1/2 Teaspoon
- 1 packet of Kool-Aid
- Microwave
- Soak (optional)
Directions:
- Fill a medium-sized bowl with about 2 cups of water
- Soak your project in the bowl for about 30-45 minutes
- Prepare your dye(s)
- Remove project from bowl, and squeeze out any excess water
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of dye, per egg being dyed, to water & stir until dissolved
- Submerge project in the dye solution
- Microwave bowl in 5 minute increments until the water is mostly clear
- Remove project from the dye solution, and submerge in clean water to rinse out any excess dye (we also used Soak to rinse our sample!)
- Remove project from bowl, and squeeze out any excess water
- Dry completely & enjoy!
