How to Keep Track of Your Place in Chart Reading
Highlighter tape is a great tool! We suggest you use this brightly colored tape to keep track of which row you're on.
Below are some great tips about how to keep track of your place in chart reading:
- The key to keeping track is to make it a routine part of your knitting to move your highlighter tape as soon as you finish a row so that you will always know where you need to start if you need to put your work down. Alternatively, you could move it just before you start a new row so that you always know which row you last worked. Jeanne likes to place the tape above the row she's working to keep her eyes on the row below (her current working row). Knitter's choice!
- Highlighter tape is re-positionable and can be reused many times. Placing your chart inside a clear sheet protector prolongs the life of the tape even more and also does double duty to protect your pattern from incidental damage.
- Nicole loves highlighter tape too and further simplifies her chart reading by copying her lace chart and then highlighting the differing decreases with different colored markers. So she is able to tell at a glance which is an k2tog and which is an ssk. Great idea!
