Knit Front and Back (KFB)

Willie from Willie Nillie Knits teaches you how to do the Knit Front and Back (KFB) increase. We hope you enjoy it!

How to Knit Front and Back

Knit Front and Back: abbreviated KFB, KF&B, or K1f&b and sometimes called a Bar Increase. This is a knitted increase where you create two stitches out of one and one of the new stitches looks a little bit like a purl, hence the name Bar Increase because it looks like a little bar.

Here is how you do it:

  • Step 1: On the stitch you want to increase, begin by knitting the stitch normally but don't drop the stitch off of the left hand needle.
  • Step 2: Once you've made your new stitch, insert the tip of your needle into the back loop of the same stitch.
  • Step 3: Wrap the stitch and complete as you would a knit through the back loop.
  • Step 4: Drop the old stitch off of the left hand needle.

You've just knit one front and back!

There are many other kinds of increases so watch for videos on how to do them!
