Knitting Short Rows
This is a great way to achieve invisible shaping in your knitting. Wraps and Turns are common terminology when working short rows. They are used for shaping, such as bust or waistline shaping. Short rows are used in Entrelac work and of course in socks!
1. Bring the working yarn to front as if to purl.
2. Using the tip of your right needle, slip the stitch from the left needle to right needle as if to purl (but don't purl it).
3. Take the working yarn, wrap it around stitch so that the yarn is now at the back of your work.
4. Now, turn your work to other side. Once you have turned it so the other side is facing you, now your yarn will be in the front of your work.
5. Take the right needle under the stitch and slip it back to right and then move your yarn to the back so it is in normal working position.
6. Knit the rest of the row.
7. The wrap and turn is now complete (you will see this wrap - it is visible) and so the next step is to work the wrap on our next row.
8. Knit up to the wrapped stitch. Then pick up the actual wrap (it looks a bit like a noose) and slip it onto your left needle and work it together with the stitch that it wraps. They should be knit as one.
9. Now the wrap has disappeared!
