How Tamara Kelly Helps Blanket Club Makers Stitch with Confidence

One of the biggest questions we hear from Blanket Club makers is: “What if I get stuck?”

The good news? You won’t be stitching alone.

Every 2026 Blanket Club member gets access to step-by-step stitch tutorials from Tamara Kelly of Moogly Blog, designed to guide you through each section of your blanket with confidence. Whether you’re learning a brand-new technique or just need a little reassurance along the way, Tamara’s clear, friendly teaching style is there to help every stitch make sense.

We asked Tamara to share some of her best advice for Blanket Club members, from tackling tricky stitches to building confidence as the year unfolds.

What’s your go-to advice when someone feels stuck on a stitch?

Put it in time out! I know it sounds silly, but it's a trick I've used myself. There have been quite a few times when I get stuck on a new stitch, technique, or pattern. So I set it aside temporarily, eat something, get a good night's sleep, or work on something else. The next day, it almost always seems easier! I think sometimes our brains just need a little break to take in new info.

What makes teaching Blanket Club different from other projects?

I'm a big fan of Jimmy Beans Wool's Blanket Clubs and Lena's designs. One thing that really stands out when making or teaching them is how well-written they are! The instructions are clear, well organized, and there are great helpful tips! A lot of care went into making the patterns both approachable and enjoyable to use.

If someone is brand new, what’s the best way to approach each section?

I would recommend you look through each kit and see which sections seem most approachable for you, and start there. Then, when you're well rested and have good lighting, take your time and tackle the more challenging sections. Hopefully, the video tutorials will help with the trickiest bits, but don't be afraid to search out additional tutorials online when you have questions! Every teacher has their own style, and sometimes it's the little things that will make a new stitch "click" for you.

What would you say to someone who feels nervous about starting?

The advice to read through a pattern before you begin is always good, but it can also seem really overwhelming. My best advice is to remember that while it is a stitch along, it's not a race! You can take your time with each kit, and work at your own pace. So as you go through your first kit, take it slow. Read through the first page, and see what the special stitches are. See how much you already know how to do! Instead of worrying about what looks new, think about all the amazing new skills you'll have at the end of the year - or whenever you finish your blanket.

Any pro tips for keeping tension even across sections?

This can be tricky - watching a lighthearted romcom one night and an intense thriller the next will definitely mess with your tension levels! So we have to do what we can to keep things even, and set ourselves up for success. I recommend you set aside one hook or set of needles to use throughout the stitch along, so that you minimize any manufacturer differences. Then, when you sit down to stitch, take a deep breath and relax your hands, arms and shoulders as much as you can. A bit of arm support can also help fight arm fatigue, which can mess with your tension as well. Finally, be sure to block each section as you go!
