Q: Why did you design Dalraida?
A: I designed the Dalraida Cowl simply because I really enjoy knitting stranded colorwork. The patterns are not traditional Fair Isle patterns in that some of the rounds have three colors in them and in Fair Isle you would only have two no matter how many colors are in the piece overall, which gave me the opportunity to play with the patterns a little bit and how they relate to the three colors I chose.
Q: Can you share any inspiration or backstory?
A: A lot of my work is geometric/architectural in nature - no matter how much I try I cannot seems to design asymmetrical pieces or random colors so this cowl is very much me as a knitter!
Q: Is there anything makers should know before starting?
Because the piece is designed in sections separated by a three stitch repeat it would be very easy to change up the pattern order if you wanted to. And because of the yardage on Dream in Color Smooshy, if you swap a main color with one of the contract colors you can actually get two cowls out of three skeins (provided you are at or very close to gauge).
